Description
The Felseneck GG 2022 comes from Tim Fröhlich's most beautiful terroir, where the steep slopes have extremely stony soils. This translates directly to the glass: the wine has an intensely concentrated minerality. The balance between power, incredible finesse and precision make this GG a cult wine that you will definitely want to mature.
VDP (Verband Deutscher Pradikatsweinguter) Grosse Lage is the denominator for the very best German vineyards, which are precisely defined per plot. The VDP is an important organization with approximately 200 of the best wine growers in Germany. The VDP has mapped the quality of vineyards (and their wines) and divided them into Erste Lage and Grosse Lage, comparable to the Premier Cru and Grand Cru qualifications in Burgundy. With the VDP classification, the classification revolves around terroir rather than must weight. Unique wines with a special expression of the specific plot, a mature character and great maturing potential are born here. Only the very best grape varieties specifically suited to the vineyard enjoy the privilege of being planted for this purpose. The strictest possible production criteria guarantee the top of the VDP qualification pyramid.
About Schäfer-Fröhlich
The global demand for Schäfer-Fröhlich wines is increasing, as is the quality. Every new year seems like a new milestone for what Tim Fröhlich is capable of. The wines are exceptionally beautiful, perfectly balanced and have fantastic fruit. The success of Schäfer-Fröhlich is great. For example, his dry Riesling and the Spätlese Riesling were both declared the best in Germany at the 'Königsdisziplinen des German Rieslings' and in the Gault Millau 2013 his Spätleses finished in place 1 and 4.
Tim Fröhlich is called 'the master of spontaneous fermentation'.

2018 Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck Riesling GG
RP 97
Drink Date:
2024 - 2040
Bright and clear fruit aromas intermix with flint stone and herbal aromas to open the spectacularly deep, dense and coolish, extremely mineral 2018 Felseneck Riesling GG. Very intense, rich and concentrated on the silky-textured and refreshing palate, this is a crystalline and silky yet dense and enormously mineral, tightly woven, dry and piquant Riesling with remarkable tannin structure and sustainable salinity. This Felseneck needs years to open up and also the biggest glass you can find. Tasted during the VDP Grosse Lage preview in Wiesbaden in August and two times at home in October 2019.

SCHÄFER-FRÖHLICH RIESLING NAHE FELSENECK GG 2022
Score
98
What amazing harmony this Nahe riesling GG has in spite of the vibrancy of its very racy acidity. Amazing spice and smoke in the nose with notes of pomelo and grapefruit on the concentrated and impeccably proportioned palate. Some grapefruit pith bitterness at the finish, but this just adds to the excitement that the slatey minerality generates and beams out to the whole galaxy. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck Riesling GG 2021
TASTING NOTES - 97
"Multi-layered aroma, herbal, some malt, balsamic savouriness, white peach, dried lemon peel, some anise. On the palate, drive and mineral tension are gradually revealed, salty and citrus background, skillful balance, all of a piece. Will keep evolving." - Ulrich Sautter

Tim Fröhlich is called 'the master of spontaneous fermentation', and according to the Gault Millau, the prices of his wines in an international context are 'a joke'. And as Eichelmann says in his eponymous guide: "The wines are getting better and better, have even more precision. Both the dry and the noble sweet Rieslings from Schäfer-Fröhlich are the best in Germany.'
