Description
Saint Clair is named after James Sinclair, who was responsible for the first settlements in Blenheim, New Zealand, home of the winery on the South Island. Founded in 1978, the family business is one of the pioneers in wine growing in Marlborough. That is why the link with pioneer James Sinclair was quickly made. Saint Clair owns over 270 hectares of vineyards in Marlborough on the South Island and in Hawke's Bay on the North Island.
The Pioneer Block series is made from excellent small fruit plots identified by Saint Clair winemakers from selected specialist vineyards with unique terroir in the Marlborough region. Each wine has subtle style differences and carries a name linked to the origin of the vineyard that tells a story.
The Saint Clair Pioneer Block 6 Oh! Sauvignon Blanc is named after the O'Dwyers Road location. The Sauvignon grapes come from a selected vineyard in Lower Rapaura, a sub-region of Marlborough in New Zealand. The soils are deep and alluvial with a lot of silt, making them very fertile. After harvest, the grapes are pressed, avoiding contact with the skins as much as possible. The juice is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain maximum freshness. In the glass the Block 6 Oh! Block Sauvignon Blanc lemon yellow with a green glow. On the nose the wine has intense and aromatic notes of lime leaf, thyme and green herbs. In the mouth the wine is powerful, with tropical notes (passion fruit, grapefruit). The Block 1 is a juicy and lively wine with a long aftertaste. Delicious with salmon with avocado and lime mayonnaise.
