Description
Saint Clair is named after James Sinclair, who was responsible for the first settlements in Blenheim, New Zealand, the winery's home base on the South Island. Founded in 1978, the family business is among the pioneers of viticulture in Marlborough. Hence, the connection with pioneer James Sinclair was quickly established. Saint Clair owns over 270 hectares of vineyards in Marlborough on the South Island and in Hawke's Bay on the North Island.
After harvest, the grapes are pressed, avoiding contact with the skins as much as possible. The juice is cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its freshness. In the glass, the Saint Clair Marlborough Origin Sauvignon Blanc has a characteristic lemon-yellow color with aromas of passion fruit and guava on the nose. On the palate, the wine is expressive, again with tropical aromas and a minerally, fresh finish. Delicious with mussels, oysters, clams, and goat cheese.

2021 Sauvignon Blanc Origin
90
Drinking Window
2022 - 2025
From: Desperately Seeking Sauvignon (Mar 2022)
The 2021 Origin is a succulent, charming Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of weight. There's no denying its variety given the passionfruit and green herbal characters as well as the bright, grapefruit-like finish. While sweetly fruited, it's precise and tangy, with a lightly salty edge on the finish. A good effort and a great value.

"Toast, specerij, noot, steen fruit. Vulling, room, zacht zuur." - 4/5 sterren, Perswijn over de 2019-vintage
"Saint Clair's 2021 Wairau Reserve (£25) is a elegantly complex drop, but for crowd-pleasing drinking, this entry-level label – comprising mainly Lower Wairau fruit in 2022 – is always a reliable buy. Forward blackcurrant leaf and passionfruit, crisp grapefruit acidity and mineral tones." - 90 punten, Decanter over de 2022-vintage
