Description
The Juan Gil Silver label (also called the 12 Meses or Etiqueta Plata) is made from the Monastrell grape (Mourvedre) and comes from vineyards that are more than 50 years old. Juan Gil was one of the first wine companies to be very concerned about our planet. All energy is generated by solar panels and windmills, there is no irrigation and no chemicals are used and this Juan Gil Silver Label is therefore organic and vegan certified. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak. The color is purple-red and in the nose you can perceive red and black fruit such as red currant and blackberry. Also beautiful notes of smoked wood and espresso. In the aftertaste the refined tannins come to the fore. This is simply great wine and especially the price-quality ratio is impressive. In addition, this wine is made with respect for nature and no chemicals have been used here. From the 2019 vintage they eliminate all raisins with their new optical sorting machine and that makes it a very clean wine and has further increased the precision. They also reduced the toastiness of their barrels and that increases the integration of the oak with the fruit.
FACT: The Juan Gil Silver Label is not an International Award Winner for nothing. For years, Australian top winemaker Chris Ringland has been supervising the Gil Family project in Spain. Chris Ringland is not just any old guy and scored 100/100 no less than 11 times at Parker.
Juan Gil, a family business founded in 1916 in the centre of the town of Jumilla, is the champion of putting Jumilia on the map as a (top) wine region and has led to several winemakers standing up for the prestige/potential of the wines of the region and the qualities of the Monastrell grape. True to its origins, this winery has seamlessly merged tradition and the latest technology with respect for the environment. Juan Gill is also the maker of the famous Clio and the world-famous El Nido. We are not going to deny it; we are a big fan of Juan Gill and find it especially beautiful that he has both wines in the top segment, such as the Clio and the El Nido, as well as wines that are also made with love and have a high quality, but are also very affordable. All wines have an unbeatable price-quality ratio.
In addition to the Silver Label, Juan Gil also has the Yellow Label (4-6 months maturation) and the Blue Label (18 months maturation) and of course the great Juan Gil Blanco .
FACT: In the Tab: Attachment you will find the official factsheet of this beautiful wine. We will automatically send it to you when you order this wine. The Juan Gil Silver Label is a fantastic wine with stewed vegetables or a stew and a must with a grilled bavette and with slowly cooked pipe smoke and we think that the wine is almost made to pair with spareribs from the BBQ/Kamado - they go so fantastically together.

The beautiful bodega Juan Gil was founded in 1916 and has been owned by the Gil family for generations. Unlike the majority of Jumilla, the vineyards are located on the plateau between the mountains. As a result, Juan Gil benefits from a more temperate climate compared to the wineries located in the valley. The metamorphosis on Juan Gil's domain is truly spectacular. Where Juan Gil was always one of the leading wineries of the Jumilla region, today it marks itself more than ever as the top winery of the region. This is mainly due to the constant investments of owner Miguel Gil. His wines from the Jumilla region, which was synonymous with mass and basic, now rank among the very best in Spain. And what is beautiful, not only the top cuvées but any wine with the Gil signature is a pleasure. In addition to the well-known and famous wines of Juan Gil under the name El Nido and Clio, the family has beautiful domains including Pedrera, the 12 Meses (silver Label)| and the L'Altre de Can Blau. All in all, beautiful wines which are all organically grown and produced and have an excellent price/quality ratio
Miguel Gil also owns the top estate El Nido and out of respect and love for his region (and great wine!), is choosing quality over quantity in Jumilla, which had been undiscovered for years. For the mini-project of Bodegas El Nido, he calls on the Australian top winemaker Chris Ringland (at Parker perfect for 100/100…). At this small Bodega, 2 wines are made: Clio & El Nido. The 16 hectares of Monastrell vineyards, which are 60 years old, are situated on terraces that are oriented to the northeast. In addition, 25 years ago, 12 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted in the same region on the north-facing hills. Today, these unique vineyards offer top-quality grapes that are magnificently refined by the Gil-Ringland duo into Spain's most aristocratic wines.
