Description
Domaine Rémi Jobard and the pure style of Meursault
Domaine Rémi Jobard is an established name in Meursault and is known for its exceptionally pure, precise, and understated style. While some producers emphasize opulence, Jobard always seeks balance, tension, and transparency. This gives the wines an almost crystalline structure that allows the terroir to fully express itself. Under the Winery tab, you'll find more background information about the estate and its methods.
Les Genevrières is one of Meursault's most famous Premier Crus, typically producing wines with a combination of power, finesse, and aromatic depth. In the hands of Rémi Jobard, this vineyard truly shines thanks to its restrained upbringing and focus on precision.
The Premier Cru terroir Les Genevrières
The Les Genevrières vineyard is located south of the village of Meursault, on a gently sloping slope with a mix of limestone and fine clay. This soil structure produces wines with both breadth and tight, mineral lines. The name refers to the juniper berries that once grew here, a hint at the aromatic character that often characterizes Genevrières.
Les Genevrières is known for its elegant structure with floral accents, subtle herbs, and a refined nuttiness. The combination of chalky soil and optimal sunlight makes this terroir one of the most expressive and complex parcels in Meursault.
The 2022 harvest year in Meursault
2022 was a warm and dry year, but with sufficient nighttime cooling to preserve the acidity in the Chardonnay. As a result, the vintage displays a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and lively tension. The grapes were healthy and aromatically intense, resulting in wines with depth, softness, and remarkable precision.
Les Genevrières enjoyed the ideal balance of warmth and freshness in 2022. The natural richness of the terroir shines through this year, while maintaining the tension characteristic of the higher elevations of the vineyard.
Vinification and maturation by Rémi Jobard
Jobard's vinification process is entirely focused on purity. The grapes are pressed slowly, and the juice undergoes natural fermentation in large oak foudres. These large barrels give the wine more texture without overloading the aromas with excessive oak.
The aging process lasts twelve to fifteen months on the fine lees, with minimal bâtonnage. This creates subtle roundness without sacrificing the wine's tension. This restrained approach allows the precision of Genevrières to fully emerge, with a perfect balance between creaminess and minerality.
Color, aroma and taste of the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières
In the glass, the wine displays a light golden yellow color with greenish reflections. The aroma opens with citrus zest, white peach, and pear, followed by floral notes of acacia and honeysuckle. The chalky soil imparts aromas of wet stone and a subtle, refined smokiness. A hint of almond and soft spices complete the whole.
The palate is clear and precise. The attack is elegant and refined, after which a beautiful concentration unfolds in the mid-palate. Citrus, ripe apple, and stone fruit dominate, supported by mineral tension that provides structure and length. The acidity is fresh and lively, but never harsh.
The finish is long, clean, and complex, with notes of lemon peel, almond, and a light salty note. The wine displays an impressive combination of breadth and finesse, as Les Genevrières can offer at its best.
Storage potential
The 2022 Les Genevrières is already approachable, but will gain complexity over the next seven to ten years. With bottle aging, notes of brioche, hazelnut, and softer stone fruit develop, while maintaining a beautiful minerality and tension. The wine will likely reach its optimal drinking window between 2026 and 2032.

Aromas of citrus zest, ripe pears, fresh bread and vine blossom introduce the 2019 Meursault Narvaux, a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered wine that's concentrated and incisive, exemplifying the vintage-typical alliance between ripeness and acidity.
As I wrote last year, this is one of Meursault's more promising under-the-radar estates, and the wines deserve to be better known. The young Valentin Jobard is cousins with Antoine and Rémi Jobard; his grandmother was Bernard Morey's sister, and she married a Jobard after the Second World War, with 1949 marking the real beginning of this six-hectare domaine. Valentin's grandfather, he speculates, worked with François Jobard's father and may be the source of a shared approach to winemaking; but he died in 1980, and the domaine was left in a state of more or less benevolent neglect. Since taking the helm, Valentin has worked to rehabilitate the estate's wines, cultivating the soils and trending in an organic direction. In 2020, he tells me, he had time to devote to even more manual labor: use of the "pioche" or pickaxe between vines, and severe debudding to limit yields. His winemaking style is classical: whole bunches are pressed for more than three hours, settled overnight and barreled down with lots of lees in oak from Tonnelleries Rémond, Bethomieu and Ermitage, some 25% of which is new. They see one year in wood and two to three months in tank before bottling to digest any dissolved oxygen, but Valentin is experimenting with a full 24-month élevage in barrel. The wines have been closed with Diams since the 2008 vintage and go to bottle with 25 parts per million of free sulfur dioxide. The 2019s have turned out nicely, displaying both the bright acids and the richness of fruit that, in combination, are the vintage's signature; and the 2018s, which I also revisited on this visit, lived up to their performance a year ago.

Remi Jobard is the dynamic son of Charles Jobard, who has dedicated years to the construction of this small winery of 9 hectares, but with large plots in Meursault. Remi immediately showed his talent with modernly made wines that are mainly pure and mineral, original and not over-concentrated. The domaine has already abolished the use of herbicides and chemicals since 1988 and the wines are fully certified organic, so that the terroirs with their beautiful limestone hills can be seen to their fullest.
The harvest is carried out by the same team every year, the pickers are experienced and carry out an initial sorting directly in the vineyard. In addition to organic viticulture, as little intervention as possible is made in the vinification, the aging in Stockinger demi-muids, 650 liters of Austrian oak barrels, brings very little wood aromas, but a beautiful structure. These Burgundies often receive high reviews from the press and are a fine reference of the Meursault appellation, with chiseled and pure wines. The premier crus Poruzot and Genevrières, together with the Charmes and Perrières, are among the most perfect terroirs that Meursault has to offer.
