Description
Origin and history of Maison Evenstad
Maison Evenstad is the Burgundian chapter of the Evenstad family, known for the renowned Domaine Serene in Oregon, United States. Their passion for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay brought them to the Côte d'Or, where they acquired Domaine Christian Confuron and transformed it into Maison Evenstad. From the historic heart of Burgundy, they produce refined wines with deep roots in the local terroirs. The vineyards are located in iconic villages such as Nuits-Saint-Georges and Premeaux-Prissey. Here the grapes benefit from a continental climate with warm summers and cool nights, ideal for preserving freshness and aromas.
The Aux Argillières vineyard and its unique terroir
The climat Aux Argillières is located at the foot of the Côte de Premeaux-Prissey. The south-facing slope of more than 5% guarantees excellent ripening. The soil consists mainly of white marl and limestone, which ensures the mineral expression in the wine. The Chardonnay vines are deeply rooted here and are optimally nourished by the chalky profile of the soil.
Grapes, harvest and vinification of this Bourgogne Blanc
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay. The grapes for this cuvée were harvested on September 4, 2022. Thanks to the warm growing season, early flowering and favorable rainfall at the end of June, the bunches were able to ripen perfectly. After the manual harvest, the wine was aged for 14 months in oak barrels, 20% of which were new. This gives the wine structure and subtle wood tones without overwhelming the fresh character. The wine was bottled on April 10, 2024.
Tasting profile of the Bourgogne-Blanc Aux Argillières
This wine presents itself clear and light gold in the glass. In the nose, aromas of citrus dominate, complemented by floral notes and a salty undertone. In the mouth, the wine is tight and lively with a fresh acid profile. The finish is long and mineral, with hints of iodine that are typical of the chalky soil of the vineyard. The alcohol percentage is 13.5% and the wine is bottled as 'Régionale' classification with a production of 1744 cases.
