The history of Domaine Evenstad and its Burgundian roots

Domaine Evenstad was founded in 2021 by American couple Grace and Ken Evenstad, known for the award-winning Domaine Serene in Oregon. With a passion for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they expanded their wine empire to Burgundy, where they manage 6 hectares of vineyards spread across prestigious appellations such as Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Clos de Vougeot. Their goal is to produce wines that express the unique characteristics of each terroir, combining traditional Burgundian methods with modern techniques.

Côte de Nuits-Villages: an appellation with character

The Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation, recognized since 1964, covers five communes: Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux-Prissey, Comblanchien and Corgoloin. These areas lie on the northern and southern borders of the Côte de Nuits and are known for their production of both red (Pinot Noir) and white (Chardonnay) wines. The vineyards are located on gentle slopes with a variety of soils, including slightly calcareous brown soils, gravelly scree and deeper alluvial layers, which contribute to the complexity and diversity of the wines.

Vinification and maturation of the 2022 Côte de Nuits-Villages Grandes Vignes

The 2022 Domaine Evenstad Côte de Nuits-Villages Grandes Vignes is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, hand-harvested in September 2022. After careful fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, some of which were new. This approach ensures a harmonious integration of wood influences while preserving the expression of the fruit and the terroir. The wine was bottled in the spring of 2024.

Color, aroma and flavor profile of the wine

The wine presents itself with a bright ruby red color. In the nose, aromas of red berries, cherries and floral notes such as violets emerge, complemented by subtle hints of herbs and mineral accents. On the palate, the wine is elegant and refined, with silky tannins and a lively acidity that ensures a fresh and balanced finish. This Côte de Nuits-Villages Grandes Vignes is already accessible, but will develop further with a few years of bottle aging.
