Description
Domaine Rémi Jobard: pure expression of Meursault
Domaine Rémi Jobard, located in the heart of Meursault, is among the producers reviving the region's classic style. Rémi Jobard took over the family business from his father and is now fully certified organic. His focus is on low yields, natural fermentation, and minimal intervention in the cellar. This results in wines that combine tension, depth, and terroir expression. His style is recognizable by the subtle oak notes, refined acidity, and pronounced minerality—precisely what makes Meursault great.
The vineyard Les Narvaux
Les Narvaux is situated just above the Premier Cru vineyards of Meursault, on a chalky, stony slope facing east. This position ensures optimal sunshine and natural drainage. The vines are on average 60 to 70 years old, contributing to the concentration and complexity of the fruit. The combination of altitude, poor soil, and old vines produces a wine that effortlessly combines refinement and power. Les Narvaux is often considered one of the finest lieux-dits in Meursault, approaching Premier Cru status.
Vinification and style
The 2022 Les Narvaux is made entirely from Chardonnay and vinified with meticulous attention to detail. After a gentle pressing, fermentation follows with natural yeasts. The wine is aged partly in oak barriques (approximately 20% new wood) and partly in large, old foudres, followed by several months in stainless steel tanks. This approach creates a balance between freshness and complexity. The result is a wine with pure fruit expression, subtle oak integration, and a long, mineral finish.
Tasting note
The 2022 Meursault Les Narvaux has a bright, light gold color. The nose opens with aromas of white flowers, citrus, pear, and almond, followed by a mineral note that adds freshness and tension. On the palate, the wine is refined and energetic, with ripe fruit notes of apple and peach, perfectly balanced by lively acidity. The structure is elegant and slightly creamy, while the finish is long, salty, and precise. The wine has the typical roundness of a Meursault, but with the straightforward freshness characteristic of the Les Narvaux terroir.
Character of the 2022 vintage
The 2022 vintage in Burgundy produced wines with remarkable balance and ripe aromatic expression. Despite the warm summer, Rémi Jobard's wines retain exceptional freshness thanks to early harvest dates and careful vinification. This Meursault reveals the charm of the vintage with its open, fruity character, yet remains true to the precision and minerality that distinguish its wines. It is a vintage that is already accessible, but will develop even more depth with a few years of bottle aging.

Aromas of citrus zest, ripe pears, fresh bread and vine blossom introduce the 2019 Meursault Narvaux, a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered wine that's concentrated and incisive, exemplifying the vintage-typical alliance between ripeness and acidity.
As I wrote last year, this is one of Meursault's more promising under-the-radar estates, and the wines deserve to be better known. The young Valentin Jobard is cousins with Antoine and Rémi Jobard; his grandmother was Bernard Morey's sister, and she married a Jobard after the Second World War, with 1949 marking the real beginning of this six-hectare domaine. Valentin's grandfather, he speculates, worked with François Jobard's father and may be the source of a shared approach to winemaking; but he died in 1980, and the domaine was left in a state of more or less benevolent neglect. Since taking the helm, Valentin has worked to rehabilitate the estate's wines, cultivating the soils and trending in an organic direction. In 2020, he tells me, he had time to devote to even more manual labor: use of the "pioche" or pickaxe between vines, and severe debudding to limit yields. His winemaking style is classical: whole bunches are pressed for more than three hours, settled overnight and barreled down with lots of lees in oak from Tonnelleries Rémond, Bethomieu and Ermitage, some 25% of which is new. They see one year in wood and two to three months in tank before bottling to digest any dissolved oxygen, but Valentin is experimenting with a full 24-month élevage in barrel. The wines have been closed with Diams since the 2008 vintage and go to bottle with 25 parts per million of free sulfur dioxide. The 2019s have turned out nicely, displaying both the bright acids and the richness of fruit that, in combination, are the vintage's signature; and the 2018s, which I also revisited on this visit, lived up to their performance a year ago.

Remi Jobard is the dynamic son of Charles Jobard, who has dedicated years to the construction of this small winery of 9 hectares, but with large plots in Meursault. Remi immediately showed his talent with modernly made wines that are mainly pure and mineral, original and not over-concentrated. The domaine has already abolished the use of herbicides and chemicals since 1988 and the wines are fully certified organic, so that the terroirs with their beautiful limestone hills can be seen to their fullest.
The harvest is carried out by the same team every year, the pickers are experienced and carry out an initial sorting directly in the vineyard. In addition to organic viticulture, as little intervention as possible is made in the vinification, the aging in Stockinger demi-muids, 650 liters of Austrian oak barrels, brings very little wood aromas, but a beautiful structure. These Burgundies often receive high reviews from the press and are a fine reference of the Meursault appellation, with chiseled and pure wines. The premier crus Poruzot and Genevrières, together with the Charmes and Perrières, are among the most perfect terroirs that Meursault has to offer.
