2022 Domaine Lamy-Pillot Saint Aubin Les Pucelles

In 1973, René Lamy and Thérèse Pillot, both born into established winemaking families, married and established their estate in the Hameau de Morgeot on the edge of Chassagne-Montrachet. The Pillot family traces its origins back to the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet in 1595. The Lamy-Pillot winery is a family estate that cultivates 20 hectares of vineyards spread across 27 different appellations, primarily located in Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin. Today, the estate is run by their daughters, Florence and Karine, and their wives. Florence and her husband, Sebastien Caillat, are currently responsible for winemaking. Florence trained in Beaune, while Sebastien Caillat was educated in Strasbourg and Dijon. In addition to their training, they both completed numerous internships, both domestically and internationally, before taking over the cellar in 1998.

The Saint-Aubin wine region in the Côte de Beaune shouldn't be confused with the other 69 villages bearing the same name across France. "Saint Aubin" is the name of a 6th-century bishop known for his generosity to the sick, widows, and orphans, and who reportedly performed miracles both during his lifetime and after his death. Perhaps this is another reason why Burgundy wine is so coveted; it seems to taste of vinification miracles, both in its youth and long after it begins to age in the bottle.

The Saint-Aubin wine region is flanked by two very famous neighbors, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. With 30 Premier Cru vineyards representing 75 percent of production, this region is known for excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.

The wine style is characterized by a balanced and supportive use of oak. The beautiful terroir, with its mineral notes, is not overpowered by excessive oak, allowing the fruit to shine through beautifully in all the cuvées.
