Description
Château Lagrange is one of the most prominent Grand Cru Classé wineries in Saint-Julien. The vineyard lies entirely within the Saint-Julien appellation and extends in a single block over two north-south rises of Gunzian gravel soil. Large and coarse in parts and finer in others, this gravel is combined with sand or iron-rich clay, depending on the plot. At 24 metres in altitude, the centre of the estate marks the highest point in Saint-Julien. The estate covers 182 hectares (450 acres), of which 118 hectares (292 acres) are under vine. Most plots have a drainage system.
The Les Fiefs de Lagrange accounts for approximately 60% of the estate's production. It is the 2nd wine of Chateau Lagrange and as is often the case with such top houses, it is often substantially cheaper but certainly not substantially less. The Les Fiefs de Lagrange offers attractive aromas of cassis, plums, tobacco leaves and nicely integrated oak. Medium to full, spacious and charming. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 11% Petit Verdot

Professional Reviews
Parker
90 -91
Exhibiting aromas of cassis, tobacco leaf, sweet soil tones and licorice, the 2022 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with velvety tannins and a rather rich, generous profile. As ever, this bottling benefits from the strict selection that goes into crafting the grand vin.

Les Fiefs de Lagrange St.-Julien 2020
Score
92
Dark fruits with a spicy character and licorice, dark chocolate and black olives. Some wet earth, too. Medium-bodied, polished and textured with fine-grained tannins and a juicy fruit core underneath. Flavorful and attractive with a creamy finish. Drink or hold.

The Japanese group, Suntory, acquired the domain in 1983. Marcel Ducasse was then recruited together with Kenji Suzuta to carry out the complete restructuring of the vineyard and a spectacular renovation of the entire estate. This first step was to mark the rebirth of Chateau Lagrange. After twenty years of dedicated work, as well as human and technical investments, Lagrange is once again one of the top Grand Cru Classé , focusing over the last twenty years on the production of refined, elegant and expressive wines, in the best Saint-Julien style but also with production methods that substantially reduce the ecological impact.
Located entirely within the Saint-Julien appellation, the Lagrange vineyard stretches in a single block over two north-south rises of Gunzian gravelly soil. In parts large and coarse and in others finer, this gravel is combined with sand or iron-rich clay, depending on the plot. With a height of 24 meters, the center of the domain marks the highest point of Saint-Julien. The estate covers 182 hectares (450 acres), of which 118 hectares (292 acres) are under vines.
