Château Lagrange is one of the most prominent Grand Cru Classé wineries from Saint-Julien. Located entirely within the Saint-Julien appellation, the vineyard extends in a single block over two north-south rises of Gunzian gravel soil. In parts large and coarse and in others finer, this gravel is combined with sand or iron-rich clay, depending on the plot. With a height of 24 meters, the center of the domain marks the highest point of Saint-Julien. The estate covers 182 hectares (450 acres), of which 118 hectares (292 acres) are under vines. Most plots have a drainage system.

This Medoc is colored deep garnet purple in the glass. On the nose the Lagrange opens a bit closed, but as the wine rolls in the glass, slowly revealing cedar notes of a cigar box, tar, pencil shavings, camphorsuckle and fragrant earthy notes with plums, cherries plus a hint of yeast extract are released. In the mouth, full bodied, full of black fruit and earthy accents, it has (still) firm tannins and good freshness, ending with a persistent mineral note.

95 Jane Anson, 94-95 James Suckling, 94-95 Alexandre Ma, 94 Markus del Monego, 93-95+ Jeb Dunnuck, 93-95 Wine Advocate, 92-95 Vinous (A. Galloni), 92-94 The Wine Independent (L. Perrotti-Brown), 92 Falstaff Magazine, 91-93 Vinous (N. Martin)

Wine Advocate 93-95/100 :A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Merlot, the 2023 Lagrange offers up aromas of dark berries, plums and cherries mingled with hints of pencil shavings and violets. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with good depth, supple tannins and a suave, vibrant profile, it's attractively seamless and complete ”.

The Japanese group, Suntory, acquired the domain in 1983. Marcel Ducasse was then recruited together with Kenji Suzuta to carry out the complete restructuring of the vineyard and a spectacular renovation of the entire estate. This first step was to mark the rebirth of Chateau Lagrange. After twenty years of dedicated work, as well as human and technical investments, Lagrange is once again one of the top Grand Cru Classé , focusing over the last twenty years on the production of refined, elegant and expressive wines, in the best Saint-Julien style but also with production methods that substantially reduce the ecological impact.
