The area on the Nahe and its tributaries Glan and Alsenz boasts a 2,000-year wine-growing tradition. Thanks to the shelter from cold winds of the high Hunsrück, mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine provide an excellent climate for viticulture. An eventful geological history has given the Nahe area great soil variation. Grapes grow on slate, volcanic porphyry soils, loess or loam. This offers opportunities for a multitude of grape varieties and wine styles.
