The Colin Family Legacy

The Colin family has a long history in Burgundy, where several generations of winemakers have been active. Bruno Colin continues this family tradition and has built his own reputation as an experienced winemaker with a refined and modern style. His estate encompasses vineyards in some of the region's most prestigious appellations, including Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Saint-Aubin. The philosophy of Burgundy winemaking is rooted in the concept of terroir : each vineyard has its own character and identity, and it is the winemaker's job to express this. Bruno Colin is a master of this. His wines are known for their elegance, purity, and balance—the very essence of what makes great Burgundy so special.

The Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc appellation

The Hautes-Côtes de Beaune vineyards lie west of the famous Côte de Beaune, on a higher plateau with a cool microclimate. The subsoil consists of chalky clay and stony soils, producing wines with lively acidity, mineral tension, and refined aromatic intensity. This region is known for its pure, fresh Chardonnay style, which prioritizes elegance over power. The higher altitude produces wines with a pronounced freshness and a beautiful contrast between ripe fruit and tight structure.

Vinification and style

The 2021 Bruno Colin Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc is made entirely from Chardonnay and was harvested by hand. After a gentle pressing, the must was fermented in oak barrels, a small portion of which were new, followed by aging on the lees to gain additional depth and texture. This careful vinification results in a wine with bright fruit, lively acidity, and an elegant balance between freshness and creaminess. Bruno Colin perfectly translates the terroir into a wine that is both accessible and full of character.

Tasting note

In the glass, the wine displays a clear, light golden color. The nose opens with aromas of citrus, green apple, and white flowers, complemented by a subtle mineral note. On the palate, the wine is fresh and taut, with flavors of lemon, pear, and a hint of almond. The acidity is vibrant and supports the round texture, creating lovely tension and length. The finish is clean, with a slightly salty note that elegantly concludes the wine. This Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc is a refined interpretation of Chardonnay that beautifully captures the freshness of the high-altitude terroir.

Character of the 2021 vintage

The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was challenging, with cool weather and late flowering, but it produced wines of exceptional finesse and precision. For Bruno Colin, this resulted in Chardonnays with vibrant acidity, refined fruit expression, and pure balance. The 2021 Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc combines youthful energy with subtle depth and demonstrates how well Colin handles the cool climate of this appellation. A wine that is already inviting, but will continue to evolve beautifully over the next five to seven years.
