Description
Borgogno No Name Nebbiolo
Borgogno No Name is not just any wine; it's a powerful statement of tradition, quality, and a touch of rebellion. Borgogno, one of the oldest wineries in Piedmont , remains true to traditional winemaking methods and sustainable production. This Nebbiolo, sourced from 13 hectares of vineyards, nine of which are planted with the Nebbiolo grape, reflects the craftsmanship passed down through generations. Produced according to the classic method, the wine is aged for a minimum of three years, two of which are in oak barrels, resulting in a complex and balanced structure.
The name No Name has a deeper meaning: due to bureaucratic complications surrounding the DOCG classification, Borgogno decided to bottle this wine without official Barolo status, proudly bearing the subtle "Etichetta di Protesta" (Protestation Certificate). This nameless beauty, however, offers the full experience of a refined Barolo.
Tasting notes for Borgogno No Name 2022
In the glass, Borgogno No Name presents itself with a grainy red color and intense aromas of vanilla, spices, and wilted roses. The palate is full and powerful, with ripe tannins and a pleasant sweetness that beautifully balances the wine's robust character. Nuances of black fruit, cocoa, and a hint of tobacco complete the taste experience. The finish is long and inviting, perfect with dishes such as red meat, game, and rich pasta dishes.
The Borgogno No Name may not have a rebellious character, but it is certainly exceptionally tasty.
As wine critic Harold Hamersma also wrote in De Grote Hamersma (2016), in which he rated the Borgogno No Name with an 8.5: “A wonderfully powerful and idiosyncratic Nebbiolo with ripe tannins and a relaxed sweetness. But that shouldn't have a name.

This has a spicy and slightly earthy character with dark cherries and plums as well as walnut and dark licorice undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with dense meaty structure and velvety tannins. Succulent and tense with a dark-fruited, long finish. Drink or hold.

“Borgogno.

Borgogno is one of the very first and probably very oldest wineries in Piemonte. The Italian winery strongly believes in the classical and traditional philosophy whatever its strength; adherence to these traditions has been passed on to future generations for years. Borgogno owns 13 hectares of vineyards, 9 of which are planted with the Nebbiolo grape. The wines are all vinified in a traditional way to produce unique and structured wines.
