The 2014 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Cannubi comes from one of the most famous sites in Barolo and clearly demonstrates why this cru is so highly regarded. Cannubi is known for wines that combine power and refinement, and in this 2014, these come together beautifully. The style is classic rather than exuberant: less focused on ripeness and extraction, and more on tension, structure, and detail. This is a Barolo that does not immediately reveal itself fully, but opens up quietly in the glass. As it breathes, aromas of rose, spices, and ripe fruit appear layer by layer. The 2014 vintage underscores this image, with a slightly leaner, more precise structure that suits Cannubi's location well. A serious Barolo.

Giacomo Borgogno & Figli: historic Barolo winery from Piedmont

Borgogno is one of the very first and probably oldest wineries in Piedmont. The winery is known for its classic and traditional philosophy, in which the same working methods have been passed down through generations. This consistent approach forms the basis for wines with character, structure, and a distinct terroir profile.

The estate has approximately 13 hectares of vineyards, of which 9 hectares are planted with Nebbiolo. All wines are vinified in the traditional manner, with a focus on long aging and natural balance. In addition, Borgogno operates sustainably, with respect for nature and the environment.

Barolo Cannubi cru – top vineyard in Barolo

Borgogno owns several cru vineyards, including Liste, Fossati, and the famous Cannubi. These vineyards are scattered throughout the Barolo area and each yields its own expression of Nebbiolo.

Cannubi is without a doubt the most famous and acclaimed cru of Barolo. The location and soil produce wines with both power and elegance. Barolos from this cru are known for their longevity and can easily age for 30 years.

Traditional aging in large wood

This Barolo is made from 100% Nebbiolo and is produced entirely according to traditional methods. The wine ages for approximately 4 years in large 6,000-liter Slovenian oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a further 6 months of bottle aging before being released onto the market.

This long aging ensures structure, complexity, and a pure expression of grape and terroir, without the influence of new wood.

Taste profile Borgogno Cannubi

In the glass, the wine has a deep garnet red color with characteristic tile-orange hues. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of roses, spices, and dark fruit. The wine displays beautiful layering and continues to develop in the glass.

On the palate, this is a full-bodied Barolo with power and structure. The tannins are firm yet refined, giving the wine its classic character. Flavors of dark fruit and spices are supported by fresh acidity and a long, lingering finish.

This is a Barolo with conviction. You have Barolo, and then you have the Borgogno Cannubi.
