Description
A feature that distinguishes Tentenublo is the special situation of the 7 hectares of vineyards, spread over 19 plots located between ViƱaspre and Lanciego, one of the lesser known areas of the Rioja region. The incredible diversity of these plots reflects the various wines that Tenteublo produces, which in all cases involve very small unique plots, so the final production is only a handful of very unique, great Rioja wines. Bodega Tentenublo is one of the absolute new style Rioja makers. Made from a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha supplemented with a tiny bit of malveisia and viura. The vineyards are all between 40 and 100 years old and they worked with minimal intervention and soil cultivation. The Tentenublo Tinto is a sensation of fresh fruit. The wine is aged for 10 months in French oak. In the nose we smell ripe black fruit with balsamic tones. It is a lively wine, uninhibited and informal and pure quality. Parker writes in his review (93/100): " This has personality and is very attractive "
FACT: In some cases, the wines receive a kind of WAX seal instead of a regular capsule. This has no further purpose and has the disadvantage that it hardens quite quickly and pieces can easily crumble (spontaneously, during transport, etc.). This has no influence on the quality of the wine. We cannot provide any further guarantee for this.

The red 2019 Tentenublo was produced with the fruit from different plots planted with Tempranillo, Garnacha and white grapes in the Sobremoro paraje (a place in ViƱaspre that has 300 hectares) that has red sandstone soils that produces powerful wines. Each plot is fermented separately, in concrete or plastic bin, depending on the size, and the wines matured also separately in different oak barrels for nine months. 2019 is a riper vintage, and the wines show it. This has a heady perfume with something earthy, floral, with tons of aromatic herbs (rosemary, thyme, lavender), nutmeg, clove and other spices reminiscent of a vermouth, with notes of ink, a bit mysterious (soy sauce?) and attractive, with notes of black fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied, very complete, with fine tannins and a powerful mouthfeel. This has 14.5% alcohol but doesn't feel warm at all. This has personality and is very attractive. 13,633 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021.
Roberto OlivƔn feels comfortable with his range (seven wines) and volume, which was completed with Custero, a red in the style of a "cosechero" from the young vines he planted with massale selections in vineyards three to 10 years old. He works 10 hectares in 30 plots, all worked according to organic certification (the wines will be certified from 2022). In total, he makes around 50,000 bottles.
2018 is a classic Rioja Alavesa vintage, harvesting late, into November, with very good weather. 2019 is very warm and dry; 2020 is again cooler, with mildew and a late harvest. He likes vintages like 2018 and 2020. I didn't taste any 2021s, but he lost a lot because he had hail in July and Lanciego was a disaster.

One of our latest discoveries in the Rioja is a family business called "TENTENUBLO" (this refers to the ringing of the bells used in the villages of La Rioja to repel hail during the growing season). OlivƔn Roberto has been appointed on behalf of this winery. Although OlivƔn is relatively young, it already has a very renowned status as a top oenologist. Olivan does not follow the normal structure but makes modern Rioja's and also from vineyards that are unique. All Tentenublo vineyards are high by Rioja standards (at +600 meters) and have a loamy / marl soil. The sticks have to work hard and a lot is left to nature. The yields are extremely low and the wines surprise every Rioja connoisseur. Although this is a young winery, we predict that this house will belong to the absolute Spanish and International top in the coming years.
