JJ Prüm is without a doubt the winery with the most famous Riesling wines with almost unaffordable versions in between (in an overview of the 50 most expensive wines in the world is at number 5. Joh. Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerauslese with a price around 10,000 euros!!
The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese from Prum is an absolute beauty with a drinking window up to 2090+ The wine is full of apple and pear essences wrapped in notes of honeysuckle and lily. The Prüm Riesling Spatlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr is very delicate and has a silky texture. This is a unique and beautiful Riesling. Beautiful slightly chilled as an aperitif but certainly also recommended with white meat. The statement by Stephan Reinhardt from the Wine Advocate (Parker) is very beautiful: "This is impossible to spit, as the crystalline acidity is so delicate and interwoven with the fruit and texture of this persistently salty beauty"
98/100 Parker with drinking window up to 2090+

The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is intense and complex on the still introverted but complex nose that shows clear, bright fruit aromas (baby pineapple) intermingled with fine, flinty slate notes. What an aristocratic appearance! Round, crystalline and saline on the palate, this 2020 Auslese is much more openhearted and fruity as well as frisky and frivolous than it pretends to be on the nose. This is a really Catholic Riesling or a picture-book Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese. Its finish, however, is Protestant: rigorously linear, straight and with serious structure and grip. All in all, this is the world's most ecumenical Sonnenuhr. Pure fascination. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 38 21 in July 2022.
Prüm's 2020s are without exception narrative Rieslings, shaped by their respective origins, which to taste always means pleasure and even relaxation but never real work. It will certainly not be easy for the 2021s to outdo the partly grandiose 2020s once these show fascinating clarity, finesse and elegance. Even Dr. Manfred Prüm, probably not a man of praise, had to admit at the end, "That was a highly enjoyable wine tasting; that's how I like it!" He wanted to explicitly praise his daughter Katharina for the 2020 vintage, but at the subsequent lunch he preferred to devote himself and us to two wines from the archive. Thank goodness Prüm wines speak for themselves anyway, so who needs praise?

Son Sebastiaan is the founder of the, to this day, recognizable style for which Prüm wines are praised worldwide. Sebastiaan Prüm died in 1969 and on behalf of his sons, Dr. Manfred Prüm and younger brother Wolfgang Prüm, presided over it. Today, the winery is managed by Manfred and his daughter Katharina Prüm.
The house has completely focused on the renovation of the Riesling. Most of the vines are not grafted, this was not necessary because the Phylloxera louse cannot survive among the slate on which the vineyards are grown. Depending on the harvest, Prüm produces between 10,000 and 13,000 boxes annually. The vineyards cover an area of 22 hectares in Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr and Bernkasteler Badstube respectively.
