Once a year Finca Villacreces always releases its new vintage and then only in magnum format and in a beautiful wine tin which is designed by a different artist every year. These wine cans have already become a true collector's item and are always only released once in a very small edition as a kind of festive introduction to the new vintage. Only often 3 months later (so around March 2022) are the normal 0.75 liters and normal magnums (so no longer in the limited wine can) released.
This Pruno 2020 Magnum Limited Edition is presented in limited edition. It follows the collection "Secrets of Villacreces" in which in the previous performances the subjects were: man, flora, fauna and the river. On this occasion, it is dedicated to history with the tribute to the sanctuary of the monks and hermits for more than eight centuries. Villacreces is a unique location that bears witness to its history.
This Pruno Magnum version is also always made from organically grown grapes from a special organically certified plot with the best grapes. Under the Tab: Attachment you will find the factsheet and Winemakers notes about this 2020 Pruno Limited Edition Magnum.
Unbelievable- what a wine for this price. This Pruno from Finca Villacreces is still young but still has a lot of potential for the coming years. Time and again this beautiful wine scores very high with the international wine press and they have proven at Finca Villacreces that they can produce a constant quality year-in, year-out. Parker says in his review: "WOW- normally such a wine costs between 75-150 dollars!!!" and talks about "over-delivery"
Half of the total vineyard area of 60 ha was used in the past by Peter Sisseck in his assembly of the Flor de Pingus. This Pruno is therefore an incredible wine for its price. The Pruno is a sensational wine.
The Finca Villacreces is an old abbey located on the "Golden Mile" along the river Duero in the Ribera del Duero appellation in Spain. The total area of the estate is 115 hectares, of which 60 hectares are vineyards. These 60 hectares are spread over 15 different plots that all contribute to the quality of the wines on this impressive domain. The sandy terroir and the high altitude of the vineyards do not make it easier to ripen the planted grapes tinta del païs (tempranillo), merlot and cabernet sauvignon. The more than 100-year-old pine trees do contribute to a microclimate in which the grapes feel good and the harvests have been of an exceptionally high level, especially in recent years. Due to the high location, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in particular have a hard time ripening here. In recent years a lot has been invested in the vineyards: drip irrigation, the vines are tied higher to get more leaves and thus better photosynthesis and the young plantings of the newest vineyards already give an unprecedented quality fruit. Grapes are harvested here only at optimal ripeness, resulting in beautiful concentrated wines with a fine acidity. All Finca Villacreces wines undergo malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Depending on the wine, the aging in cask is determined. Of course, the harvest year also influences this and the standard is deviated from. Pruno undergoes a bearing of 12 months, Reserva a bearing of 16 months and the Nebro even 18 months. After bottling, the bottles remain in the cellar for a long time before being put on the market. For the Pruno this is shorter than for the other wines.
