2020 Emilio Moro El Zarzal

The 2 new white wines from Emilio Moro are the El Zarzal and the La Revelia and have seen the light of day with the 2016 vintage. Both are based on the noble grape Godello and the vineyards are located in the Bierzo. They have been working on these new (white) wines for more than 10 years to produce beautiful wines that suit a high-end wine company such as Emilio Moro. That they are not the only ones who do this is proven by Mauro, who is also very successful with his Godellos.

The El Zarzal is produced with grapes from 20 year old vines in Bierzo, which are fermented in stainless steel and aged in 2500 liter oak barrels for 8 months. In the glass, the el Zarzal has a light pale golden color and the wine is clear. In the nose the wine is fresh, clean with a good fruit base and subtle citrus scents with white flowers. The almost imperceptible oak notes (brioche, toasted bread) give the wine even more depth and complexity. In the mouth it is fresh and bright, with good weight and polished nuances and nice acidity and a slightly salty minerality that is so befitting a good Godello. Definitely worth mentioning is the great trim and artistic labeling of these new white members of the Emilio Moro family designed by the artist Domingo Zapata who designed all the labels and the box.
