Description
This beautiful luxury gift box contains one bottle of the superb red Emilio Moro Malleolus , two wine glasses, and one corkscrew. The Malleolus consistently receives well over 90 points from international wine critics such as Parker, Decanter, and Suckling. Under the "Package Contents" tab, you'll find all the information about the contents of this beautiful gift box.
The 2020 weather in Ribera del Duero was characterized by a slight increase in average temperatures, which, combined with abundant spring rainfall, allowed the vines to develop well. There was also some rainfall just before harvest, resulting in high-quality grapes with good aromatic expression and intensity, but with a somewhat lower yield.
The Emilio Moro Malleolus is a 100% Tinto Fino varietal (the Emilio Moro clone of Tempranillo) and has been macerated with its own skins for 18 days. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, it is aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, the wine has a very deep, intense cherry red color. This Malleolus presents an intense concentration of fresh red fruit – a result of the low yields from the old vineyard. It has class, elegance, ripe aromas of good intensity, and a great personality. The balance between ripeness and freshness is excellent, and the months of aging in 500-liter barrels have given the Malleolus a wonderful complexity. It is powerful and structured, and on the palate, it has good balance and a long, persistent finish. The Malleolus has a very showy, seductive nose of smoked bacon, roasted coffee, cereals, violets, cherries, and raspberries with abundant spice and very well-integrated oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied with beautifully refined tannins. Wonderful now, but it will certainly improve with age. This wine has been considered a benchmark Ribera del Duero wine for years.
Emilio Moro is an internationally renowned winery from the Ribera del Duero, and this blend is a beautiful and exclusive gift box that is incomparable to many wholesale mass-produced wines.

From: Ribera del Duero: A Shifting Frontier for Spanish Wine (Nov 2023)
The 2020 Malleolus is 100% Tempranillo sourced from Pesquera del Duero and was aged in 500-liter French oak barrels. A dark garnet-red in color. The nose presents dark fruit accompanied by wild herbs and cedar hints. The rich, indulgent wine shows reactive tannins and a liqueur-like mouthfeel that leads to a flavorful, woody finish.
- By JoaquÃn Hidalgo on September 2023
Founded by Emilio Moro and continued by his grandsons, José and Javier Moro, this Pesquera de Duero winery boasts 300 hectares of vineyards, mostly in the local area, with some elsewhere in Ribera. They produce their own Tempranillo clone and use it in nearly all their output. The wines are done in a refreshing and modern Ribera style, characterized by vibrant fruit, polished tannins and a touch of New World flair. Their renowned Malleolus label has been bottled since 2000. The family also owns a winery in Bierzo, where they craft Godellos with a contemporary twist.

The family business Emilio Moro has been located in Pesquera del Duero since 1892. This bodega boasts a three-generation tradition and includes vineyards over 90 years old. Due to their long history, they have been able to expand their vineyards very specifically with mostly Tinto Fino. The Finca Resalso and Crianza excel in purity, elegance and complexity. The top cuvées are of rare class; the very old vines of these two 'Pagos' give an extremely low yield resulting in very complex wines with a great depth and temperament.
In 1987 Emilio Moro first launched his own wines under his own label. With about 200 hectares of vineyards and a total annual production of 1.5 million bottles, it is a modern and large company. Thanks to its high quality standards and innovative management, it is also one of the leading wine companies. This applies not only in Spain but money worldwide and this is also confirmed that it has been nominated by Wine Enthusiast as Best Winery of the World. Emilio Moro's focus on Research, Development and Innovation is impressive and the enormous focus on quality is certainly an important factor in the high quality of all wines, but let's not forget that the old Emilio Moro vineyards are located in the most beautiful part of the Ribera del Duero with a completely unique and extremely suitable terroir located at a great height. In 2017, Wine Spectator placed the Emilio Moro in 59th place in the Prestigious Top 100 of the world's best wines.
In 2008, Emilio Moro died at the age of 75. In the same year, the Emilio Moro foundation was established, which is committed to providing poor regions of the world with clean drinking water and improving living conditions. Javier & José Moro are now in charge.
The emilio moro portfolio consists of 5 red wines, all of which are made from the regional variant of the Tempranillo (tinto fino). The special thing is that a very old pure clone is used. The vineyards range from 30-90 years old, but even the younger vineyards are from the lots of this unique clone. Emilio moro does not use the terms Crianza or Reserva and the name of the wine stands for the character of the wine.
