Description
St Pierre 1er Saint Emilion Grandcru is a beautiful St Emilion at an equally good price. This is quite unique for the price. The wine gets no less than (95-96)/100 points from suckling. That can be called quite unique for a wine from this price range. Suckling writes: " This is a solid red with lots of blackberry, crushed-stone, pine-needle and iron character. It's full-bodied with layers of ripe, chewy tannins that are polished and poised. Extremely well crafted. A top wine from here " 11 hectares The vineyard is located on a deep siliceous soil. This St Emilion is a blend of Merlot 80% and Cabernet Franc 20% from vines between 35-40 years old. Harvesting is done by hand and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The wines are aged for 16-18 months in 30% new French oak and others in used oak.
Stained deep purple-black in the glass, the St Pierre 1er Saint Emilion exudes bold scents of blackberries, stewed black plums with hints of menthol, black olives and charcoal. The medium to full bodied is packed with juicy black fruit, supported by fine grained tannins and pockets of freshness, with a long and layered finish.

The 2020 Château Pierre 1Er should be outstanding and has a spicy, red and black-fruited style carrying subtle leather, dried earth, and loamy soil-like aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied on the palate, has a great texture, some chalky minerality, and is just a classic Saint-Emilion that will keep for 15+ years. ~90-92 Jeb Dunnuck
