2020 Chateau Potensac
Château Potensac is located on the ground of the Haut-Médoc in the Médoc. Although there are numerous Médoc wines with a higher quality than the Haiut-Médocs, Potensac is a striking example of this. This wine is therefore made by Michel Delon of Leoville las Cases in St. Julien. Due to the various extensions, the spireless church in the hamlet of Potensac belongs to the domain.
The estate has been owned by the same family since time immemorial and has always been handed down by women. The current owner, Jean-Hubert Delon, inherited the estate from his paternal grandmother, Georgette Liquard. Although close to the river, Potensac is on a high piece of land in Northern Medoc. Because of this position, the site has been populated since ancient times. The name "Medoc" in fact comes from "medio aquae" which means "in the middle of the waters" The vineyards are planted on the best quality soils in the Ordonnac district, the vineyards now extend over 60 hectares on a terroir where the typical characteristics of each grape variety are very clear and give the wine an excellent aging potential.
The 2020 Potensac is a blend of 44% merlot, 33% cabernet sauvignon, 22% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. The wine has 14% alcohol and is aged in 35% new French oak barriques. In the glass, the Potensac is medium to deep garnet purple, popping out of the glass with scents of ripe juicy black plums, blueberries, currants and cassis, plus hints of dried Provencal herbs, cinnamon stick and dusty soil. The palate is medium to full bodied and packed with vibrant layers of black and red berries, supported by soft tannins.
