Description

Since its takeover in 1995 by Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, chateau Giscours with its fantastic terroir has made a comeback. The domain covers more than 80 hectares of vineyard and produces a very reliable but above all classic Margaux with a lot of depth. The Giscours is a beautiful vintage. In the glass it has a beautiful dark purple color - The 2020 Giscours is a blend of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is a medium to full-bodied wine with beautiful notes of espresso, red fruit, (cherry, raspberry) licorice, leather and has a very refined scent of flowers and fruit with non-dominant but beautifully present oak notes. In the mouth the wine is round, juicy and can be drunk now but can also be stored for another 30 years.

Giscours was in a dubious state when Nicolas Tari acquired it in 1954. Substantial investments followed and quality improved by leaps and bounds. In 1995 Giscours came into the possession of the Dutch grocer (supermarkets to Super de Boer and Edah) Eric Albada Jelgersma, who also invested heavily here, just like at his other Château du Tertre property and further improved the quality through a rigorous replanting and replanting program. The cellars were shed and new equipment was purchased. Today Giscours is again “the grand seigneur” it once was and worthy of a 3rd cru. With 200 ha of which 80 ha of vineyard one of the greatest assets in the Médoc.
