The Hidden Cellar is Grand Cru's exclusive wine club concept, specially designed for our most loyal customers. You automatically become a member if you regularly order from Grand Cru. As a Hidden Cellar member, you'll have first access to a selection of exceptionally rare wines: vintages, iconic Bordeaux appellations and Burgundies, Italian Super Tuscans, Napa Valley wines, and rare Champagne. We can offer these gems directly from the wineries at very attractive prices (well below market), often wines that are no longer available or unaffordable. So, the wines come directly from the wineries and haven't traveled halfway around the world in questionable circumstances. Discover all the benefits of this concept on the Hidden Cellar page .

Chateau Giscours and the history of Margaux

Château Giscours is one of the leading châteaux in the Margaux appellation in the Médoc. The estate dates back to the 14th century and flourished in the 19th century, when it was included in the renowned 1855 classification as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé. Today, the estate is led by Eric Albada Jelgersma and his family, who have made significant investments since the 1990s to modernize both the vineyard and the cellar. This combination of rich history and a modern approach makes Giscours one of the most respected estates in Bordeaux.

The terroir and grapes of Chateau Giscours

The estate boasts over 90 hectares of vineyards situated on deep, gravelly soils with excellent drainage. This terroir is ideal for the classic Médoc grape varieties. Plantings consist primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyards' location, combined with the temperate maritime climate, ensures optimal ripening and finesse in the wines. This balance between power and elegance is characteristic of Margaux and especially of the Giscours style.

The harvest and vinification of the 2010 vintage

The 2010 vintage is considered one of the greatest classics of this millennium. The growing season featured a balanced combination of warm days and cool nights, allowing the grapes to slowly develop their ripeness while retaining fresh acidity. Harvest took place under excellent conditions, with the Cabernet Sauvignon delivering powerful tannins and deep aromas, while the Merlot provided softness and roundness. In the cellar, the wine was vinified traditionally, followed by 17 to 18 months of aging in French oak barriques, a significant portion of which was new wood. This gives the wine added complexity and aging potential.

Tasting profile of Chateau Giscours 2010

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color. The bouquet opens with aromas of cassis, black cherries, and plums, complemented by notes of cedar, violets, and a subtle hint of cigar box. On the palate, the wine is powerful and concentrated, yet refined and harmonious. The structure is firm, supported by ripe tannins and a wonderful freshness. The finish is long, complex, and elegant. Renowned international wine critics have praised this wine for its balance and longevity. Parker, Suckling, and Decanter called the 2010 a classic Margaux that will offer many years of enjoyment.

Storage potential and development

With over 15 years in the bottle, the 2010 Château Giscours is a wonderful wine to experience how great Bordeaux develops. This type of wine is a living product: some bottles now reveal their ultimate harmony, while others can age even further. This makes it all the more exciting for wine lovers and investors to see how the wine will continue to develop in the coming years.
