Description
Bolla is one of the oldest Amarone houses and more than 130 years later, the Bolla winery has grown into a world-famous winery with a wide range of wines. What has remained is the unique taste of the Bolla wines resulting from the special climate and terroir of the Veneto region. Oenologist Christian Zulian has been winemaker at Bolla since 2015. Before he started at Bolla, he worked for thirteen years at Marchesi Antinori and for several years at Domaine Baron de Rothschild.
The name Tufaie comes from the old name of the Tufa Quarries that once surrounded Verona. This golden volcanic stone, like the color of this wine, was used to build the most beautiful churches and the 'Teatro Romano'. In the glass, this Sur Lie and wood-matured Soave is golden yellow with notes of citrus, melon, grapefruit, pear, a hint of herbs and honey in the nose. In the mouth, this full-bodied Soave has beautiful aromas of acacia flowers, ripe white fruit and dried almonds. The taste is intense and soft. Full with a fantastic structure and an intensely long finish. This Tufaie Soava is a perfect accompaniment to risotto, veal, or freshwater fish.
This version is packaged in beautiful wrapping paper (see image).
“Different from other Soaves. Tufaie is in a class of its own. For those who like it: matured on wood. Long-term storage 'sur lies'. As a result, richer, more complex and fuller. Marzipan fruit: peach, mango and banana. Some coconut. Sufficiently fresh. Velvety freshness. Forms a classic combination with a returning classic from the Wina Born era: trout with almonds” , Harold Hamersma in DGH 2018, rated 8.5.
“Admittedly: the other Soaves from Bolla that I tasted are also fine. Different. Sit a bit harder in their acids. Tufaie is in a class of its own. Complex, but yielding. Adapts like a chameleon to your mood. Knows exactly when you need creaminess or silky acids. Rich, studied yellow fruit. Beautiful”, Harold Hamersma in DGH 2017, rated with an 8.5.
“The best possible introduction to Bolla is the Tufaie, a Soave Superiore that was partly barrel-aged and composed of 85% Garganega, supplemented by Trebbiano di Soave. The heavily bottled, still youthful-looking wine tastes pleasant, fresh and very juicy with a slightly nutty and at the same time mildly fruity aroma towards peach and pear and will form a wonderful partnership with, for example, freshwater fish” Hubrecht Duijker

Professional Reviews
8.5/10
“Anders dan andere Soaves. Tufaie is een klasse apart. Voor wie ervan houdt: op hout opgevoed. Langdurige lagering 'sur lies'. Daardoor rijker, complexer en gevulder. Marsepeinfruit: perzik, mango en banaan. Iets kokos. Voldoende fris. Fluwelen frisheid.

The story of the Bolla winery starts with one man, Abele Bolla. He lives in the north of Italy, in the Veneto region, where he runs a small family inn. In order to offer his guests more than just a stay, he decided in 1893 to produce a wine that he could serve to his guests. This Soave is a light yellow, fresh, aromatic wine, which reflects the essence of the Veneto area. The demand for this wine grows as more and more people taste its wine. As a result, the family decided to fully focus on wine production. More than 130 years later, the Bolla winery has grown into a world-renowned winery with a wide range of wines.
