Description
Bolla is one of the oldest Amarone houses and more than 130 years later the Bolla winery has grown into a worldwide famous winery with a wide range of wines. What has remained is the unique taste of the Bolla wines arising from the special climate and terroir of the Veneto area. Oenologist Christian Zulian has been winemaker at Bolla since 2015. Before joining Bolla, he worked for thirteen years at Marchesi Antinori and several years at Domaine Baron de Rothschild.
In 1950, the grandchildren of the founder of Pedemonte Cellar in Valpolicella bottled their grandfather's favorite wine to celebrate his 80th birthday. That was the Amarone. And so the commercial history of this wine began. The very first Amarone ever made, launched by Bolla, and now loved all over the world. With this Amarone, Bolla rediscovers the origins of wine and produces with dedication and respect for tradition. This first Amarone ever made has a complex aroma of black cherries, vanilla, licorice and cedar wood. Full of flavour, powerful, with pure notes of cocoa and spices. The Le Origini Amarone della Valpolicella is made from 75% Corvina and Corvinone; 25% Rondinella and only comes onto the market in the absolute top years such as 2016
“Think of sweet cherries, milk chocolate, nuts, liqueur, currants, fried mushrooms, a hint of tobacco, figs and raisins, and you are well on your way. So is the wine itself. It is not recommended to store it for long periods of time.” Harold Hamersma in De Grote Hamersma, rated 8.5.
“Amarone. Blockbuster wine for gourmets. Connoisseurs who love a game of mats. Don't get me wrong: the late-harvested grapes of the corvina and rondinella types are left to dry on mats until the end of March, ultimately making a wine with more concentration, power and, as you can see, alcohol. Lots of smell and taste. Think of sweet cherries, milk chocolate, nuts, liqueur, currants, figs and raisins, and you are well on your way.”

The story of the Bolla winery starts with one man, Abele Bolla. He lives in the north of Italy, in the Veneto region, where he runs a small family inn. In order to offer his guests more than just a stay, he decided in 1893 to produce a wine that he could serve to his guests. This Soave is a light yellow, fresh, aromatic wine, which reflects the essence of the Veneto area. The demand for this wine grows as more and more people taste its wine. As a result, the family decided to fully focus on wine production. More than 130 years later, the Bolla winery has grown into a world-renowned winery with a wide range of wines. What has remained is the unique taste of the Bolla wines resulting from the special climate and terroir of the Veneto area.
Oenologist Christian Zulian has been a winemaker at Bolla since 2015. Before joining Bolla he worked for Marchesi Antinori for thirteen years and at Domaine Baron de Rothschild for several years.
