Description
The 2020 EABA ("end all be all") is a blend of 65% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache, and 3% Viognier and is made with 65% whole clusters. The fruit comes from a variety of vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, including Bien Nacido, White Hawk, Larner, Harrison-Clarke, G2, and Alta Mesa. It was aged for approximately 22 months in 55% new French barriques and 600-liter demi-muids and 45% used French barriques, and was bottled on August 21, 2021. Opaque ruby purple in color, it offers beautiful, pure aromas of licorice, tar, blueberry and black cherry jam, charcuterie, pepper, olives, and baked savory herbs, offering more nuances as it spends time in the glass. Medium-bodied, it has abundant, superfine tannins, seamless acidity and slowly expanding, spicy layers of flavour, finishing very long and seductively floral. This wine begs to be enjoyed now, but will certainly reward those who wait, as this beauty is just beginning to show its true potential.

About Andremily Wines
Andremily Wines is a prestigious winery based in Ventura, California, founded by Jim Binns. The winery is known for its limited production and high quality, with a focus on RhĂ´ne varietals. Jim Binns, the founder of Andremily Wines, has an impressive background in the wine industry. He worked for many years at Sine Qua Non, a renowned winery, before starting his own winery. Andremily Wines specializes in RhĂ´ne varietals, with an emphasis on Syrah. The wines are often characterized by their rich, full flavor profiles and complex aromas.
Andremily Wines production is very limited, which contributes to the exclusivity and demand for their wines. This small-scale approach ensures that each bottle is made with the utmost care and attention. Andremily Wines’ portfolio includes mainly Syrah-based wines, but also blends with other Rhône varieties such as Grenache and Mourvèdre. These wines are praised for their depth, structure and balance.
The grapes for Andremily Wines come from carefully selected vineyards in top areas such as Santa Barbara County and Paso Robles. These regions are known for their excellent terroir for RhĂ´ne varietals. Jim Binns and his team strive to make wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their terroir and varietals. Great emphasis is placed on manual processes in the vineyard and winery to ensure the highest quality. Due to limited production, Andremily wines are sold via a waiting list and allocation system to a very limited number of sellers, with over 90% within the Americas. This means that loyal customers and collectors often get the first chance to purchase new releases.

Eaba (pronounced "ee-buh") means "end all be all," and it is an apt name for this stunning blend of 65% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache and 3% Viognier, which represents a selection of the best lots of the vintage. It comes from several vineyards in Santa Barbara County (Bien Nacido, White Hawk, Larner and Alta Mesa), plus Andremily's new Slide Hill estate vineyard in Edna Valley. It was vinified using 70% whole clusters and matured for around 22 months in 50% new French barriques. Aged an additional year in bottle before release, winemaker Jim Binns says that beginning with the 2021 vintage, Eaba will also be aged longer in barrel.
The 2020 Eaba explodes from the glass with very pure scents of violet, star anise, boysenberry and black cherry complemented by wafts of coffee beans, Castelvetrano olives and currant leaves. The palate is enveloping and luxurious with loads of velvety tannins, highly concentrated perfumed fruit and youthful streaks of new oak spice. It retains plenty of juicy acidity, which balances the wine and highlights its detailed spice and floral accents on the epically long finish. 780 cases and a few magnums were made. With patience, this may reach a "perfect" zenith.

The 2020 EABA is a dense, super-ripe wine that very much shows all the radiant intensity of the year. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, chocolate, new oak and lavender are dialed up to the maximum. This is a classic Andremily wine built on textural opulence and intensity. The 2020 has developed beautifully since I tased it from barrel.

Jim Binns presented a stellar set of 2021s and 2020s. In 2020, Binns acquired Slide Hill (formerly Sawyer-Lindquist), one of the best-known sites in Edna Valley. As good as the wines have been here in the past, my distinct impression is that the move towards becoming an estate winery is having a profound impact on the wines. I see more nuance and delineation than in the early years. Those qualities work well in rounding out wines that have always been built on textural opulence. One change here is that the EABE red blend is being bottled a year later than in the past, so I did not taste it for this report.
