Description
Château de Beaucastel is located in a magical setting dotted with vineyards, centuries-old olive trees and truffle oaks. Beaucastel, that is the most famous wine of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here you will find nature in its purest form and its power comes to rest. The typical rolled boulders are the secret of its vineyards in which gnarled vines grow in traditional 'gobelet' shapes. On this ancient soil we find the 13 grape varieties that are permitted in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. All these 13 grape varieties form the basis of the mythical blends of Château de Beaucastel, where they are grown biodynamically. They are one of the last to make use of the richness and complexity that this blend offers.
The history of Beaucastel starts in the early 17th century. The Perrins appeared in the early 20th century. We are now five generations further and there is a global company in the field of quality wines. From very affordable to the absolute top. Everything about the vision, technique and vineyard management that has given Beaucastel the coveted global top position applies to the vineyards and the wines with the other appellations of origin, such as Ventoux, Luberon, Cotes du Rhone, Gigondas, Vinsobres, Rasteau and Vacqueyras. While retaining its own character; the differences between the wines are large and prove the respectful working method. The Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is a unique and exceptional wine due to its rare grape variety, old vines, limited production, unique terroir, expert vinification, complex flavor profile, and excellent reputation. These factors make it a highly sought-after wine among wine lovers and collectors worldwide.
The most famous wine from 100% roussanne is the white Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes from Château de Beaucastel. A beautiful wine with notes of lime, pear, orange peel, caramel and honeysuckle on the palate, which are followed by a lively and very long aftertaste with beautiful acidity. In the nose we recognize aromas of grapefruit, exotic fruit, jasmine, honey, hazelnut and anise. Only 500 cases of 3 bottles are made of this (so 1500 bottles). Unprecedentedly beautiful and typical is Parker's last sentence from the review: "I found it especially hard to spit out."
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you pick up the wine you will often receive a nice discount . The Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is a special and highly sought-after wine, and there are several reasons why this wine is so special:
1. Unique Grape Variety:
The wine is made from 100% Roussanne, a white grape variety known for its aromatic complexity and ability to ripen well. Roussanne is rare in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where most white wines are blends of multiple grape varieties.
2. Old Vines:
The term "Vieilles Vignes" means "old vines". The Roussanne grapes for this wine come from very old vines, often more than 75 years old. Old vines produce fewer grapes, but the grapes they produce are of exceptional quality and concentration.
3. Limited Production:
The production of this wine is limited due to the rarity of the grapes and the age of the vines. This makes the wine difficult to obtain and increases its exclusivity and appeal.
4. Unique Terroir:
Château de Beaucastel is located in the southern Rhône Valley, a region known for its excellent terroir. The vineyards have a unique combination of calcareous clay, galets roulés and sand, which contributes to the complexity and depth of the wine.
5. Expert Vinification:
Château de Beaucastel is one of the most respected wineries in the Rhône Valley, with a long history of quality viticulture. The wine is carefully vinified respecting traditional methods, including fermentation and aging in oak barrels, which contributes to its complexity and aging potential.
6. Flavor profile:
The Roussanne Vieilles Vignes has a complex and rich flavor profile with aromas of honey, peach, apricot, and subtle floral notes, combined with a mineral freshness and a long, elegant aftertaste. The aging potential is also remarkable, with the ability to age for decades and increase in complexity.
7. Recognition and Reputation:
The wine has consistently received high scores from wine critics and is recognized as one of the best white wines of the Rhône Valley and even the world. This recognition contributes to the demand and prestigious status of the wine.

The 500-case production of this wine comes from a three-hectare parcel of Roussanne planted in 1909. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes takes the quality of Beaucastel's traditional white and raises it another level. Caramelized pineapple sounds sweet and cloying, but it isn't when it's backed by amazing texture, citrus zest and a briny sensation on the never-ending finish. As this was the last wine of my visit to the estate, I found it especially hard to spit out.

Limpid gold. An impressively complex, mineral-tinged bouquet evokes ripe citrus and orchard fruits, toasted brioche, white flowers and honey, and hints of fennel and honey emerge with air. Shows superb delineation and powerful thrust on the palate, offering ripe orange, pear, melon, sweet butter and anise flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Powerful yet graceful in character, displaying excellent delineation and spicy cut on an extremely long, floral-accented finish that leaves a sappy pear nectar note behind. Cellar this one with complete confidence.

This iconic Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate has long produced the region’s most iconic white wine, the highly complex and eminently cellar-worthy and collectible Roussanne Vieilles Vignes. The attention lavished on that great bottling has, I think, sometimes distracted attention away from the Perrin family’s outstanding “basic” white bottling, which must be counted among the best of the region. That’s especially the case over the last decade as the percentage of Roussanne in the blend has been steadily increasing, to the point where the 2016 version is based on 80% of the variety, with adjuncts of 15% Grenache Blanc and bits of Clairette, Bourboulenc and Picardan, Marc Perrin told me.
