The history of Château de Beaucastel and the Perrin family
Château de Beaucastel is one of the most renowned wine estates in the southern Rhône. Situated on the edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, the estate has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has been in the hands of the Perrin family, who have built it into a global icon of quality and tradition. Today, the fifth generation manages production with the same dedication as their forebears. Beaucastel was also one of the first estates in the region to practice organic viticulture, which still forms the basis of their approach.
Location and terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The vineyards of Château de Beaucastel are situated on the characteristic, pebble-covered soil of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These pebbles store heat during the day and gradually release it at night, which ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. The mistral wind keeps the vineyards healthy and fresh. This combination of soil, climate and location gives the wines from this region their strength, elegance and longevity. The natural conditions are ideally suited to grapes such as Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah.
What makes the 2022 Perrin Hommage Rouge unique
The 2022 Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin Rouge is the domaine’s absolute top wine. Produced only in exceptional years, this wine pays tribute to Jacques Perrin, who played a crucial role in the house’s modern success. The 2022 is a wine with great structure, concentration and elegance, suited to long bottle ageing. Production is very limited and every detail in the vinification process is aimed at preserving complexity and depth.
Grape varieties and blend composition
The Hommage Rouge is characterised by a high percentage of Mourvèdre (often over 60%), which provides powerful tannins and impressive structure. Grenache, Syrah and Counoise complete the blend, bringing balance, aromatic richness and finesse. Mourvèdre thrives on the warm, stony soils of Beaucastel and is essential to the longevity of this wine. The grapes are hand-harvested, rigorously selected and fermented separately in oak barrels and concrete vats.
Taste profile of the 2022 Perrin Hommage Rouge
This wine opens with intense aromas of black fruit, plums, cedar and liquorice, followed by notes of truffle, leather and spices. On the palate it is full and concentrated, with ripe tannins, layered structure and an exceptionally long finish. Combining power and finesse, the 2022 is already impressive now, but will only gain in complexity and suppleness with years of bottle ageing. Serve this wine with classic game dishes, lamb or rich stews.
Limited supply, high storage potential
The Hommage Rouge is only available in small quantities and attracts a lot of attention from collectors and enthusiasts worldwide every year. This wine has a proven aging potential of 20 to 30 years, and develops beautifully in the cellar. For the serious wine lover, this is a unique opportunity to bring a legendary cuvée from a great vintage into your home.

Wijnhuis
Château de Beaucastel is set in a magical setting dotted with vineyards, ancient olive trees and truffle oaks. Here you will find nature in its purest form and its strength unwind. The typical rolled boulders are the secret of its vineyards in which gnarled vines grow in traditional 'gobelet' form. On this ancient soil we find the 13 grape varieties that are allowed in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. All these 13 grape varieties form the basis of the mythical blends of Château de Beaucastel, where they are grown biodynamically. This makes them one of the last to use the richness and complexity that this blend offers.
