Description
Beaux Frères The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019: an elegant Pinot Noir from Oregon
The History of Beaux Frères Winery in Oregon
Beaux Frères is a leading winery located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, United States. It was founded in 1986 by wine critic Robert Parker and his brother-in-law Michael Etzel , who share a passion for making quality wines. The winery focuses entirely on Pinot Noir , with terroir and natural viticulture as key features. The winery is located on the northwestern slopes of the Ribbon Ridge AVA , a subregion of the Willamette Valley known for its excellent conditions for Pinot Noir.
The region has a cool, temperate climate with wet winters and dry summers, ideal for the slow ripening of Pinot Noir. The soils consist of ancient marine sediments which provide deep structure to the wines.
Beaux Frères The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019
The 2019 Beaux Frères The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir comes from the original vineyard planted by Michael Etzel in 1988. This vineyard covers approximately 10 hectares and is planted entirely with Pinot Noir vines, much of which is left untopped to allow for natural growth.
The wine is made from carefully selected grapes that are harvested by hand. The 2019 harvest took place under ideal conditions, with a moderate growing season that produced ripe grapes with a nice acidity and aromatic intensity.
Vinification and maturation of Beaux Frères Pinot Noir 2019
After manual harvesting, the grapes are gently destemmed and fermented in open-top fermentation tanks . Fermentation is done using natural yeasts , which contributes to the complexity of the wine. During fermentation, the grape skins are regularly immersed to extract color, aroma and tannins.
The maturation takes place in French oak barrels , some of which are new. The wine matures in barrel for about 12 to 18 months , giving it a subtle wood influence that supports the fruity and earthy aromas without being overpowering.
Tasting notes of Beaux Frères The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019
The 2019 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir has a bright ruby red color . On the nose the wine offers refined aromas of red cherries , raspberries and floral notes of violets , complemented by subtle spicy accents of white pepper and a hint of forest floor.
On the palate the wine is elegant and refined, with silky tannins and a lively acidity that provides balance. The red fruit flavours are supported by earthy and spicy layers, with a long, harmonious finish.

The 2019 Pinot Noir The Beaux Frères Vineyard is super expressive this vintage, with scents of brambly fruit, rose petals, forest floor, sweet balsamic and blood orange. The palate has a weightless quality, its silty tannins and bright acidity highlighting an array of earthy accents, and it finishes very long.

From: Oregon’s 2019 Pinot Noirs - A Return to Classicism (Feb 2022)
Deep, shimmering magenta. Expansive red and blue fruit preserve scents show superb clarity and take on suggestions of pungent flowers, exotic spices and smoky minerality with air. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering concentrated blueberry, black raspberry, five-spice powder and floral pastille flavors underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. The floral note repeats emphatically on a wonderfully long finish that features polished tannins and reverberating red fruit character.
- By Josh Raynolds on February 2022
Mikey Etzel (with his father and winery founder, Mike, still lending a hand) made a compelling set of Pinots in 2019 that must be counted among the top wines ever from this iconic producer. The trend toward brighter (but still powerful and intensely flavored) wines, with new oak influence receding, began well over a decade ago and continues apace today. The conditions of the 2019 growing season played favorably into that style. I was greatly impressed by the wines’ detail and vibrant fruit expressions. The “basic” Willamette Valley bottling keeps going from strength to strength, as does the Belles Soeurs, which in this vintage was the best version of that bottling that I have ever had.

Wijnhuis
