Description
Didier Dagueneau is a world-famous French winemaker who has left his mark on Pouilly-Fumé. He passed away in 2008, but his son Benjamin, who had been working for his father in the company for years, took over the company with the same passion and talent. Every wine lover knows the magnificent Pouilly-Fumés from Domaine Dagueneau. They are among the best and most sought-after Sauvignon Blanc wines and are on the menu of every serious star restaurant. The Rolls Royce of Pouilly Fumé. We can only obtain a few bottles of this. This is for the simple reason that only a very limited number of bottles are produced and then distributed to all the top wine merchants around the world.
This Pur Sang is an icon in the wine world! Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels of 450 and 600 liters, and the cigar barriques that were designed by Didier himself at the time. The grapes come from a vineyard in the north of St. Andelain, called "La Folie". The entire harvest is done manually and is selected very strictly. This wine is between the En Chailloux (his softest and most friendly wines) and Cuvée Silex (his most structured wines).
Didier, the illustrious father of Louis Benjamin, had the must of the sauvignon grapes fermented in oak barrels, something that is very unusual for Pouilly-Fumé. The grapes are picked by hand and very selectively. The wine cellar is constructed in such a way that pumping systems are unnecessary. The specially made elongated barrels are branded with 'DSLS'. This would stand for 'Dieu seul le sait' (only God knows the secret). Despite the high acidity of the wine, malolactic fermentation is never applied. Pur Sang, means full-blooded or purebred. The wine comes mainly from sauvignon fruit from a relatively clay-rich terroir. This Blanc Fume de Pouilly smells very exciting. There are so many impressions. From elderflower, white peach, lime to grapefruit and cassis. In the mouth, the structure can almost be confused with a grandiose Riesling: opulent, lively, rich in minerals, stony and salty aspects. This concerns both accessible nuances and still hidden notes, which are worth seeking out to estimate how the wine will develop in the following years.
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount . You will see your discount immediately when you choose 'Pick up' on the checkout page. We are located in Dordrecht almost next to the A16 with plenty of parking. Click here for our address.

From four parcels in Colombier and vines averaging 33 years of age, the 2020 Pinot Noir Pur Sang was picked with extremely low yields (15 hectoliters per hectare) and 98° Oechsle. Cigar perfume and super ripe cherry aromas open to an elegant, lush and intense, pretty smooth and textured Pinot with fine tannins but a baroque stature. This is a full-bodied and rich red with fine tannins intermingled with saline acidity. 13.3% stated alcohol. Diam cork stopper. Tasted in Zurich, February 2023.

From: Sancerre: Combat Fatigue (Aug 2024)
The 2022 Pur Sang is done in a really sophisticated style. Despite its long élevage, it needs a little more time for its oak (demi-muids and cigar-shaped barrels) to integrate fully and for its sense of strictness to mellow. But this isn't a wine you'd crack open on release anyway. It is pure and clear, with fine texture and a tenderness to its core. The 2022 shows fine lines and length, with tangy green flavors like cornichons and dill meeting green orange on the finish.
- By Rebecca Gibb MW on July 2024
The life and now legend of Didier Dagueneau put the otherwise unremarkable village of Saint-Andelain on the map. Dagueneau died at age 52 in the ultralight plane he was flying, and the whole wine world mourned his passing. His two children, Louis-Benjamin and Charlotte took over the domaine. Still, you'll meet the winemaker Jean-Philippe Agisson on a visit. The Dagueneau wines blew the market away when they were first released, and they remain a benchmark in Pouilly Fumé, but the gap between Dagueneau and the rest of the field is not the gulf it was when he burst on the scene although the price tag would suggest otherwise.
Dagueneau’s inspiration for Silex, his most famous cuvée, was Marcel Guitton, the original single vineyard Sancerre producer, who first put silex (flint) on the wine label. Today, it is the most important wine in the range in terms of volume produced. Despite the warm, dry conditions of 2022, it is almost reminiscent of a tight, dry Riesling with a clear terroir rather than varietal character. It needs time in bottle to relax. These are wines made within the boundaries of the Pouilly Fumé appellation. Still, they have been labeled as Vin de France since the 2017 vintage following the appellation tasting panel’s rejection of a wine. The taut, precise and mineral Monts Damnés cuvée (planted in 2002) remains under the Sancerre appellation, and the 2022 vintage is rather closed on release. Still, it shows a tenderness and prettiness that Pouilly-Fumé does not naturally provide. The wines are all made in the same way to highlight the different sites, whether it’s the one-third marl and two-thirds flint component of the ‘entry’ wine Blanc, etc. or the richer clays of Buisson Renard, which gives the wine rounded shoulders. In 2022, the latter offers ripeness and depth yet retains a sense of line and length, even a salty character. The Pur Sang cuvée hails from the village of Saint Laurent l'Abbaye, about 5km northeast of the domaine, and is perhaps the most distinctive cuvées when tasting a full Dagueneau flight. The parcel has a chalky bedrock overlaid by flint pebbles, making for well-draining soils and producing real finesse, clarity and tension. In 2022, it retains tangy green herbs (dill) and green orange, and on release, it’s a little oaky, needing further time in bottle to fully integrate. Yet it has real class, and patience will be rewarded. All the wines mature in 20-25% new oak (demis-muids, cigars) and typically spend 8-10 months in stainless steel afterward before bottling.

Domaine Didier Dagueneau is located in Saint-Andelain which falls under the Pouilly-Fumé (dry white wine type with AOC classification). The area is characterized by the mainly flint clay soil, partly responsible for the characteristic taste of the wines from this area.
Since the death of the eponymous owner Didier Dagueneau in 2008, the winery has been run by Benjamin Dagueneau. His father Didier was known in the wine world for his great wines. His son Benjamin is at least as talented and continues to work passionately in the way his father did. Of course you can taste that in the fantastic wines that this winery produces. The real wine lovers certainly know the beautiful Pouilly-Fumés of Domaine Dagueneau. They are among the most sought after and the best Sauvignon Blanc wines and are on the menu of renowned restaurants.
