Description
Château La Garde is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The chateau has around 50 Ha of vineyards, of which 34 Ha Merlot, 15 Ha Cabernet Sauvignon, 1 Ha Petit Verdot, 3.5 Ha Sauvignon Blanc and 0.5 Ha Semillon. The vineyards are all divided into plots with 27 different soil types, and extend over 3 alternating valleys and plateaus with views of Martillac. A rich diversity of soils is intersected by clay and sand veins of varying depths. Vignobles Dourthe bought this beautiful château in 1990 because of the fantastic terroir, a beautiful ridge of stones in the municipality of Martillac. Motivated by this fantastic soil, a remarkable investment was made to improve the terroir, which has directly led to higher quality. La Garde still makes very affordable Pessac-Léognan that can also be drunk when young.
Château La Garde Pessac-Léognan Blanc is only produced in limited quantities. Planted on a vein of deep limestone, Sauvignon Blanc is the majority varietal in the blend, giving the wine a rare aromatic precision and chiseled mineral character, supported by impressive length. Semillon is the perfect finishing touch for the blend and brings depth, harmony and full flavors. The 2018 vintage is a blend of 88% Sauvignon blanc and 12% Sémillon
This white wine from Chateau La Garde is unique and is grown in the Pessac Leognan wine region. Sauvignon blanc and Semillon grow here wonderfully because there is a cool climate in the vineyards. The vineyards are of considerable age, namely thirty years old, and that partly determines the refined quality. Winemaker Frédéric Bonnaffous grows the grapes on various plots. This wine is a match for the best Sancerre wines or other well-known wine regions from France. Beautiful nose with hints of pineapple, grapefruit and honeydew melon. Nice taste with sufficient acidity, citrus fruit and a slight bitterness as well as notes of green apples on the aftertaste

AGE-WORTHY WINES
Year after year, the wines of Château La Garde are living proof of the quality of this fine terroir in Pessac-Leognan and of our passion to reveal its true expression. The red wines are powerful and rich. These are wines that will age well, with their robust structure and concentration. Rounded and supple, they reveal all the elegance and finesse of the terroir.
27 DIFFERENT SOIL TYPES IN A SINGLE EXPANSE OF VINES
The La Garde vineyard covers 54 hectares and is located at the crossroads of several soils typical of the Pessac Leongnan appellation. Extensive soil studies have identified as many as 27 different soil types. A detailed knowledge of our soils has been instrumental in planning the vineyard and determining which grape variety is best suited for each individual plot. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot thus thrive on the plateau planted on a layer of gravel that lies over the clay subsoil.
