Chateau La Garde

Vignobles Dourthe bought this beautiful château in 1990 because of its fantastic terroir, a beautiful ridge of stones in the municipality of Martillac. Motivated by this fantastic soil, a remarkable investment has been made to improve the terroir and chais, in order to obtain a higher quality in this region where delicate, elegant and attractive red wines are produced.

The red wines are powerful and rich. These are wines that will age well, with their robust structure and concentration. Rounded and supple, they reveal all the elegance and finesse of the terroir.

27 DIFFERENT SOIL TYPES IN A SINGLE EXPANSE OF VINES

The La Garde vineyard covers 54 hectares and is located at the crossroads of several soils typical of the Pessac Leongnan appellation. Extensive soil studies have identified as many as 27 different soil types. A detailed knowledge of our soils has been instrumental in planning the vineyard and determining which grape variety is best suited for each individual plot. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot thus thrive on the plateau planted on a layer of gravel that lies over the clay subsoil.
