Description
The 2017 La Cumbre is a more mature version of the Syrah Single Vineyard. The wine comes from a 2-hectare vineyard in Aconcagua on the hilltop of the Don Maximiano slope (hence the name La Cumbre, which means Top of the Hill in Spanish). Errazuriz's La Cumbre is aromatic and rather showy, with floral notes, (violets, dried roses), blueberries, a hint of smoked bacon with well-balanced acidity. The wood is perfectly integrated (45% of the barrels are new and the wine ages here for at least 20 months). Elegantly structured with refined tannins and a great glass of wine and this is also confirmed by Parker who gave this performance 93/100 points

Chile deserves the top prize of all 'new' wine countries. Mainly due to the fact that the wines of this country have found a connection with the taste of many wine lovers, wherever in the world, at a record pace. There are of course special reasons for this success. The climate and soil type are ideal here and the classic European grape varieties were already present. Yet it is mainly thanks to the vision of people like Eduardo Chadwick-Errázuriz that these benefits were so quickly translated into resounding success. Exactly 140 years ago, Maximiano Errázuriz planted his vineyard in Panquehue, at the foot of the highest mountain in the Andes chain. The cool fall winds, proximity to the Aconcagua River and annual rainfall of only 25 cm make this an ideal area for wine growing. His great-grandson Eduardo Chadwick-Errázuriz has added a number of plots since 1990; they are planted with the grape varieties that best suit the specific soil and microclimate. As a result, in addition to the classic cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, the merlot, shiraz and carmenère also benefit from this earthly paradise for wine growing. Viña Errázuriz has since grown to become the absolute top of Chilean wine producers.
