Description
The 2019 ViƱedo Chadwick is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, one of the best zones within Maipo. It is from a moderately warm vintage that yielded a wine with only 13% alcohol and good freshness. It contains about 3% Petit Verdot. Super elegant and that also explains the very high scores of Parker and Suckling. The vines were planted in 1992 and the vines were fermented in equal parts in stainless steel and concrete or troncoconical vats. Three quarters of the wine was aged in new barriques and the rest in Stockinger foudres for 22 months, including time for malolactic fermentation.
The Chadwick is an absolute icon wine and is one of the best wine in the world. The color is deep cherry red with a purple glow. After some contact with the oxygen in the air, the bouquet gives off fruity notes of blueberries and wild strawberries. Also nuances of tobacco, freshly roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, truffle, cedar wood and black pepper. On the palate, the fruit character comes back strongly with a hint of caramel from the wood ageing. The finale is grandiose with a round, powerful character with elegance and complexity and a lot of subtlety. Limited availability.
A vineyard of only 15 hectares with the ultimate terroir for one of the most illustrious wines of Chile. More than once a glorious victory in blind tastings with Premier Grand Crus from Bordeaux. 99/100 Suckling 97/100 Robert Parker.
ViƱedo Chadwick from Puente Alto in Maipo is the only vineyard of Eduardo Chadwick of ErrƔzuriz and SeƱa. They only produce 10,000 bottles and both wines are distributed through the Place du Bordeaux where Grandcru wines can happily buy.

The 2019 ViƱedo Chadwick is a classical Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, one of the best zones within Maipo. It's from a moderately warm vintage that delivered a wine with only 13% alcohol and good freshness. It contains some 3% Petit Verdot. The vines were planted in 1992, and its gapes fermented in equal parts in stainless steel and concrete or troncoconic vats. Three-fourths of the wine matured in new barriques and the rest in Stockinger foudres for 22 months, including time for the malolactic fermentation. I was truly impressed by this vintage, especially because of its elegance and freshness. There are showy aromas reminiscent of tangerine and flowers, ripe red berries (rather than black) and a spicy twist from the oak but nothing herbal or balsamic that one could expect given the moderate ripeness. The grapes were picked very early, and the wine follows the path of the 2016, the coolest vintage so far, with juicy fruit, elegance and great tension. This feels exceptional and transcends the style of the year. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled the 25th of January 2021.
ViƱedo Chadwick from Puente Alto in Maipo is the single vineyard from Eduardo Chadwick of ErrƔzuriz and SeƱa fame. They produce only 10,000 bottles.

Chile deserves the top prize of all 'new' wine countries. Mainly due to the fact that the wines of this country have found a connection with the taste of many wine lovers, wherever in the world, at a record pace. There are of course special reasons for this success. The climate and soil type are ideal here and the classic European grape varieties were already present. Yet it is mainly thanks to the vision of people like Eduardo Chadwick-ErrÔzuriz that these benefits were so quickly translated into resounding success. Exactly 140 years ago, Maximiano ErrÔzuriz planted his vineyard in Panquehue, at the foot of the highest mountain in the Andes chain. The cool fall winds, proximity to the Aconcagua River and annual rainfall of only 25 cm make this an ideal area for wine growing. His great-grandson Eduardo Chadwick-ErrÔzuriz has added a number of plots since 1990; they are planted with the grape varieties that best suit the specific soil and microclimate. As a result, in addition to the classic cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, the merlot, shiraz and carmenère also benefit from this earthly paradise for wine growing. Viña ErrÔzuriz has since grown to become the absolute top of Chilean wine producers.
