The name Château Croizet-Bages dates back to the 17th century when the Croizet brothers, an emblematic dynasty of the landed gentry of the Médoc, founded this wine estate in the heart of the "Pauillac" appellation.

Their knowledge has helped them create a prestigious vineyard by consolidating several small vineyard plots in the appellation. In 1853, the famous Calvé family bought the property. As wine merchants in Bordeaux, they never stopped promoting their wine. In 1855, Croizet-Bages Castle was elevated to the status of fifth growth during the imperial classification. After that, the estate again distinguished itself at the World Exhibitions of 1878 and 1889 for the quality of its wines, as evidenced by the label's medals.

Château Croizet-Bages was hit hard by the major vine diseases of the early 20th century and the successive bankruptcies of its owners. It went through a difficult period until it was bought in 1942 by Mr. Paul Quié. This renowned wine enthusiast and Parisian wine merchant was able to glimpse the lost nobility of this classified Grand Cru. Composed of plots already planted with classified vines dating back to 1855, Paul Quié has gradually recreated an exceptional terroir, even at the risk of reducing the size of his vineyard. Thus, at his death in 1968, the restructured vineyard counted 30 hectares and included the famous hamlet of Bages.

Subsequently, his son, Jean-Michel, took command of the vineyard, allowing it to prosper by taking full advantage of this exceptional terroir. Under the influence of this man of character and conviction, the wine estate underwent an extensive renovation program, including the modernization of the vinification building and the complete replanting of the vineyard. This restructuring phase started just after the 1969 harvest when half of the vineyard was uprooted. In the years that followed, our teams were able to sketch today's modern vineyard.

In 2000, his children, Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe, decided to participate in the family's wine heritage. For 20 years they have continued to develop the Château by continuing the remarkable work of previous generations. Through the selection of grape varieties and the division of the land, the identity of the great wine can gradually be carved out.

The wine estate is currently undergoing further improvements, which should be operational in 2024. New technical installations are being built gradually, including new barrels and barrel cellars to support the specific tillage of the plot in the vineyard.
