This delicious Californian Merlot from Hahn Winery is exceptionally rich on the nose, with delicate black cherries and hints of cocoa and cassis. A velvety raspberry flavor gives way to red and black plums. Notes of vanilla, violets, and licorice are also present. Finally, all the flavors merge into a long and very pleasant finish thanks to the soft tannins and gentle acidity. This Merlot is a deep cherry red with a vibrant purple sheen, with a beautiful aroma of ripe red fruit and a pleasant freshness. A delightful mouthfeel full of dark fruits, hints of sweet spices, and a beautiful finish with oaky undertones.
Hahn Winery uses 76% Merlot, 14% Petite Sirah, and 10% Malbec grapes for this surprisingly elegant wine. The grapes are grown in Monterey County's Arroyo Seco appellation, located on a gravelly alluvial plain beneath the Santa Lucia Mountains, where a somewhat cooler climate prevails. The appellation's gravelly soil allows the grapes to develop intense red fruit aromas and a deep color. This Merlot is aged in French oak barrels, which contributes to a richer mouthfeel and dark chocolate and vanilla aromas.
A wonderful glass of wine and an ideal accompaniment to hearty pasta dishes and succulent meat dishes such as duck breast and steak.

Hahn winery is located in Monterey County, one of the 58 counties in California. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and has an ideal climate and excellent conditions for growing wine. Hahn winery cultivates, in a sustainable manner, approximately 650 hectares of vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, as well as another 461 hectares in nearby Arroyo Seco AVA. The vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands consist of 4 farmlands located on a high, hilly area, overlooking the Salinas valley. The precisely planted vines are guaranteed abundant morning sun. The Pinot Noirs of this winery owe their intensity and complexity to the beautiful soil structure and good drainage. The wind is also an important factor. As the Salinas Valley warms up during the day, the air rises and is replaced by the cool air from the lower and cooler Monterey Bay, creating a wind tunnel, as it were.
As early as 1790, Spanish missionaries discovered the rare soils and favorable climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey and planted vines there. Some 200 years later, when founder Nicolaus (Nicky) Hahn and his wife Gaby bought estates in the Highlands, cattle, sheep and horses roamed the hills. Vineyards were only a secondary concern.
After discovering that the land he had bought was ideal for viticulture, Nicky acted quickly, releasing the first Hahn wine from the Santa Lucia Highlands (SLH) in 1980. After hard work, Nicky's dream of designating SLH as an official American wine-growing region came true in 1991.
Currently, Hahn Family Wines is managed by Philip, the son of Nicky and Gaby. Santa Lucia Highlands is famous worldwide for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that are made there.
The wines from winery Hahn are all real quality wines made from the finest, hand-picked fruit.
