Description
A FIRST OFFER VALID UNTIL 12/31/2026 - EXPECTED SPRING 2027
Duhart-Milon is one of the most prestigious châteaux in the Pauillac appellation. In 1855, the château was included in the renowned classification of Médoc wines. The château is now part of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) group. The history of Château Duhart-Milon dates back to the early 18th century, when the owner of Château Lafite, Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, used Milon wines as his "second wine." By 1840, the château, now called Duhart-Milon, already owned 40 hectares of vineyards of the highest quality. After a difficult period in the middle of the last century, Duhart-Milon became the property of the Rothschild family. A new period of great prosperity began.
Château Duhart Milon is located in the Pauillac appellation, west of Château Lafite-Rothschild. The château currently boasts over 70 hectares of vineyards. The soil is typical of the region, consisting of a mixture of fine gravel, sand, and limestone. Combined with the mild climate, this makes it an ideal location for Cabernet Sauvignon, the main grape variety here. The château also uses Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is over 30 years.
The close collaboration with neighboring Château Lafite-Rothschild has resulted in a significant improvement in quality. Typical characteristics include low yields, hand harvesting, classic vinification, and a keen sensitivity to the individual character of each vintage. This results in exceptionally high-quality wines that reflect the distinctive character of the Pauillac appellation: a combination of power, elegance, and a unique capacity for aging. The wine is aged in oak barrels from the estate's own cooperage. Vinification for this wine takes place through controlled fermentation in tanks before maturing in barriques. Depending on the vintage, this maturation lasts 10 to 18 months.
The Duhart-Milion is a blend of the typical Pauillac blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot. It is deep purple-red in color, shifting to garnet to brownish red. It has a powerful, richly nuanced aroma with notes of black cherry, blackberry, and cedar, along with a lovely oaky note. It has a full, firm attack, a very smooth texture, and a complex fruity flavor with earthy notes, playful tannins, Cabernet freshness, and impressive length. The wine is at its best when the Merlot has fully ripened, as this is when the wine acquires the Merlot tannins, acidity, and vegetal notes that add complexity. The vineyard borders that of Château Lafite Rothschild (same owners), and Lafite's refined elegance is almost always present in Duhart-Milon, along with spicy oak, vanilla, and tobacco notes. The cellars are located on the Pauillac quayside. Of the barrels used there, 33% to 40% are new.

1. Entrecote with red wine jus and roasted vegetables
Why this pairs well: The firm tannins of this Pauillac call for a protein-rich dish. Sirloin steak offers fat and umami that soften the tannins, while a red wine sauce with roasted vegetables enhances the wine's earthy notes. The roasted flavors complement the oak used beautifully.
2. Rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic
Why this pairs well: Lamb is a classic pairing with Pauillac. The spicy marinade accentuates the wine's spiciness, while the juicy, slightly fatty meat beautifully balances the wine's structure. The combination brings out both the wine's fruitiness and minerality.
3. Risotto with mushrooms and Parmesan
Why this pairs well: Mushrooms add umami, which opens up the wine and makes it more approachable. The creaminess of the risotto contrasts nicely with the tannins, and the cheese brings a salty complexity that complements the ripe fruit notes and oak in the wine.
4. Beef stew with bay leaf and cloves
Why this pairs well: Slow-cooked beef allows the wine's structure to shine through without being overpowering. The deep, spicy flavors from the stew bring out the wine's complexity, while the juiciness balances the whole.
5. Wood pigeon with blackcurrant compote and parsnip puree
Why this pairs well: This pairing plays on the wine's dark fruit notes and gamey character. The berry compote enhances the Pauillac's blackcurrant profile, while the earthy parsnip accentuates the mineral undertones.
6. Veal tongue in Madeira sauce with truffle potatoes
Why this pairs well: The silky texture of veal tongue complements the wine's refinement beautifully, while the powerful Madeira sauce reflects its robust character. Truffle potato adds a luxurious earthy note that perfectly complements the complexity of this Grand Cru Classé.

A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, the 2024 Duhart-Milon was cropped at 32 hectoliters per hectare, and it was here that the Lafite team concluded the harvest. Offering up aromas of cassis and red berries mingled with hints of violets, pen ink, licorice and toasty oak, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with a round, integrated, charming profile, concluding with a moderately persistent finish.

From: Event Horizon: Bordeaux 2024 Primeur (May 2025)
The 2024 Duhart-Milon was picked between September 24 and October 8 and matured in 50% new oak. The aromatics take their time to coalesce. It's a little herbaceous at first although that ebbs away to reveal quite pure blackcurrant, raspberry and Morello scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and a dab of licorice toward the finish that just tapers slightly. Overall, this is a decent Pauillac in an old-school style that I approve of.

From: 2024 Bordeaux En Primeur: The Razor’s Edge (Apr 2025)
The 2024 Duhart-Milon opens with strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections. Blue-toned fruit, lavender, spice and dried herbs open first, all framed by brisk acids and supporting tannins that lend shape. The 2024 includes 14% press wines, about the norm here. This is a very promising Duhart.
