Casa Rojo Winery

Casa Rojo is a modern Spanish wine project known for its creative approach and focus on provenance and grape varieties. The team collaborates with local winemakers in various regions of Spain and selects a clearly defined style profile for each wine. Innovation and respect for local grape varieties go hand in hand, resulting in wines that deliberately deviate from standard expectations.

Region, climate and location

Minami Natsu is produced in southeastern Spain, where the Mediterranean climate is characterized by abundant sunshine, warm days, and cooling influences from the sea. These conditions are generally ideal for Monastrell as a red grape, but white vinification requires precise timing and careful cellar techniques to preserve freshness and aromatic tension.

Minami Natsu within the domain

Minami Natsu is a distinctly experimental wine within the Casa Rojo range. It demonstrates the versatility of Monastrell when used not as a red wine, but as the basis for a white wine. Minami Natsu thus consciously deviates from the classic interpretation of the grape and positions itself as an original, light-hearted wine with its own distinct identity.

Vineyards

The grapes come from plots that benefit from altitude and good ventilation, allowing the grapes to retain their freshness despite the warm climate. The soils are poor and well-draining, contributing to concentration and aromatic clarity. The vineyards are specifically selected for their suitability for an early harvest.

Grape varieties and composition

The wine is made entirely from Monastrell, a grape variety almost always associated with powerful red wines. For Minami Natsu, however, the grapes are pressed directly, minimizing color and tannin extraction. The result is a white wine that showcases Monastrell's aromatic profile in a surprisingly fresh way.

Harvest, vinification and maturation

Harvest takes place early to preserve acidity and aromatic tension. Direct pressing is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. No wood is used. The wine is briefly aged in tanks and bottled young, ensuring its fresh and expressive character is fully preserved.

Color, smell and taste

The wine has a clear, light straw-yellow color with a fresh sheen. The nose reveals aromas of citrus, white peach, and stone fruit, complemented by subtle floral notes and a light spiciness reminiscent of the grape's origins. On the palate, the wine is taut and refreshing, with a juicy attack and lively acidity. The mouthfeel is light and clean, with a fine tension and a refreshing finish that deviates significantly from what one typically expects from Monastrell.

"LOVE WHAT YOU DO. DO WHAT YOU LOVE" JOSÉ LUIS GÓMEZ -Making great wines takes time and a lot of dedication. Continuous improvement, continuous evolution and the search for perfection in the vineyard and then in the winery, is the only way. Only if you love your work can you show this dedication and passion. “THE MOST IMPORTANT VIRTUE OF A WINE IS BALANCE” LAURA MUÑOZ-ROJO. At Casa Rojo they make wines with which José Luis and Laura feel identified. They have the good fortune and luxury of being able to produce in the areas where they have their roots and admire with the two grapes they are passionate about: Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) in the continental climate of La Ribera del Duero and the Monastrell in our Mediterranean homeland, Tierra de Murcia. Recently, the unique white grapes from Ribero - Galicia have also been added, such as the Verdejo, Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc. Casa Rojo's vision is clear. "A wine should be a maximum expression of the soil, the grapes, the local climate."

Casa Rojo has been active since 2010, so it is a fairly young company, but now the wines of Casa Rojo are available in more than 40 countries, including USA, Singapore, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Mexico, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, etc and the demand exceeds the supply. Not surprising because the quality of the wines, the stories behind the wine and the livery are nothing short of unique.
