Description
FIRST OFFER - WINE LEAVING THE ESTATE AROUND SEPTEMBER 2026 SO AVAILABLE AT THE END OF 2026
Screaming Eagle Winery
Screaming Eagle is one of the most iconic and scarce wineries in the world. The estate gained fame for its red wines, but also produces an extremely limited edition Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is made exclusively in minimal quantities and is generally only available to a very small circle of close friends. The estate's philosophy is uncompromising, with a complete focus on quality, precision, and provenance.
More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
Region, climate and location
The vineyards are located in Napa Valley, where the warm Californian climate is tempered by cool nighttime influences. This produces ripe fruit while maintaining freshness and aromatic definition. For Sauvignon Blanc, this results in wines with tension, concentration, and a clearly distinctive profile.
Vineyards and grape varieties
The Sauvignon Blanc comes from carefully selected plots within the Screaming Eagle estate. The wine is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, with a strong emphasis on low yields and maximum grape quality. Due to its extremely limited production, this wine is considered one of the rarest white wines in the world.
Harvest, vinification and maturation
The grapes are harvested by hand at the perfect moment of aromatic ripeness and freshness. Vinification focuses on precision and texture, with attention to purity and length. Aging is controlled to develop structure and complexity without losing the fresh character of Sauvignon Blanc.
Color, smell and taste
The wine displays a clear, light golden yellow color. The aroma reveals a layered and refined profile, with fresh citrus, ripe stone fruit notes, and subtle spicy accents. Balance prevails on the palate, combining tension, concentration, and a refined texture. The finish is clean and lingering, with a clear focus on elegance and precision.
Development and drinking window
Although no professional reviews are yet available for the 2023 vintage, this Sauvignon Blanc is known for its ability to impress both young and to develop over several years. Given its style and concentration, a drinking window of several years is realistic, depending on personal preference.
Summary of professional reviews
No professional reviews have yet been published for this vintage. Given the winery's reputation and its exceptional scarcity, this wine is internationally considered a cult item within the premium white wine segment.
The full review texts can be found in the Professional Reviews tab.
If available, you'll find the official fact sheet and additional documentation in the "Attachments" tab. You'll automatically receive these when you place an order. The wine is stored in our climate-controlled Wine Warehouse. An additional discount may apply for pickup in Dordrecht; this will be visible when you select "Pickup" during checkout.

The aromatics on this are stunning, offering black cherries, blackcurrants, lead pencil, spearmint, Spanish cedar. and wild roses. It’s medium-bodied and starts slowly on the palate and then takes off with muscular tension. Nicely chewy, toned and firm. Goes on for minutes. Flexing and showing its propensity for longevity. Rock on. Best after 2028 and beyond.

From: The 2021 Napa Valley Cabernets, Part One (Dec 2023)
Tasted from barrel, the 2021 Screaming Eagle dazzles from start to finish. Dark, savory and explosive, the 2021 deftly marries power and finesse like few vintages I can remember tasting. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, grilled herbs, leather and a kick of spice all build in this wonderfully vibrant, layered Screaming Eagle. There's plenty of tannin, but it is elegantly built into the wine's fabric.
- By Antonio Galloni on December 2023
These are two fabulous 2021s from Screaming Eagle and winemaker Nick Gislason. In some years Gislason is among the early pickers, but in 2021 he waited. Merlot was harvested in late September, while the Cabernets were picked in the middle of October. The wines were still in barrel when I stopped by, but that moment, at the end of aging and just before bottling, is often a very good time to taste, certainly better than just after bottling. Yields are down about 25%, so there will be less wine to go around.

Screaming Eagle is an American winery located in Oakville, north of the city of Napa in the Napa Valley (California). It is especially famous for its very rare, limited production Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
History of Screaming Eagle
This winery was founded in 1986 by Jean Phillips, who sold grapes to several Napa Valley wineries. She purchased the 57-acre Oakville vineyard in 1986, which was planted with a mix of varieties, most of which were sold to various Napa wineries, except for 80 vines of Cabernet Sauvignon. For this one acre of Cabernet, Philips solicited the opinions of Robert Mondavi Winery employees on the commercial potential of its wine before hiring Richard Peterson as a consultant, and then met with Peterson's daughter, Heidi Peterson Barrett, who became Screaming Eagle's first winemaker. The entire vineyard was replanted in 1995 with three grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 1992 vintage, released in 1995, through a combination of very low production numbers and very positive reviews, made Screaming Eagle one of the most celebrated and expensive wines in the Napa. In 1992, she released the first vintage Screaming Eagle wine. On March 17, 2006, the estate was sold to Stan Kroenke and Charles Banks. The new owners had exciting plans to keep the vineyard small, but raise the bar in terms of quality. In April 2009, Charles Banks left Screaming Eagle, leaving Stan Kroenke as the sole owner.
Production of Screaming Eagle
Screaming Eagle's production is rare, with a strong focus on quality. The vineyard is relatively small and the team takes a practical and precise approach to every aspect of winemaking. The vineyards extend over 48.21 acres (19.51 ha), planted with the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Sauvignon blanc. The vineyards are managed by David Abreu Vineyard Management and cared for by Jorge Delgado and his team. In 2006, 34 hectares were replanted. Annual production ranges from 400 to 750 cases (between 5,000 and 9,000 bottles of 750 ml). The winemakers are Nick Gislason, Robert Black and Michel Rolland. Screaming Eagle is known for its extremely limited production, typically producing only a few hundred cases of wine per year. This limited availability has contributed to its reputation as one of the most exclusive and sought-after wineries in the world. This producer's Cabernet Sauvignon are highly praised for their exceptional quality, complexity and depth. Their reviews from wine critics are almost always excellent and the wines are considered among the finest wines produced in Napa Valley. The rarity and quality of Screaming Eagle wines make them among the most expensive in the world. They are often sold through allocation to a select group of customers, and prices on the secondary market can be exorbitantly high.
