Description
Château Latour-Martillac 2023 Blanc
Château Latour-Martillac 2023 Blanc is a classic example from the winery, made from a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Sémillon. This wine is known for its aromatic profile, with exotic fruit and citrus aromas, as well as delicate notes of white peach. The wine has a wonderful tension that provides freshness and sustains its body and richness on the finish.
Harvest conditions 2023
After the challenges of 2021 and 2022, the 2023 vintage also brought new challenges, especially for our vineyard teams. The year began with very unstable weather, characterized by a warm and humid spring, resulting in a continuous battle against powdery mildew. Fortunately, the weather improved in the second half of the season, allowing both the red and white grapes to ripen perfectly.
- Winter : Mild, except for a cool February.
- Bud formation : Early April, as in recent years.
- Spring : Characterized by two nights of frost (3-5 April) without damage thanks to protective equipment.
- Flowering period : End of May to beginning of June, during a dry, warm period.
- Growth : Very fast growth of the vines due to high temperatures and heavy rainfall in June (89 mm).
- July-August : Cool weather, which ensured slow ripening of the grapes.
Harvest
The white grape harvest began on August 28th with the first Sauvignon Blanc plots and ended on September 12th with the Sémillon. The wine's style is fresh, with good fruitiness, generosity, and a high minerality.
- Sauvignon Blanc : August 28 to September 11
- Sémillon : September 4 to September 12
Assembly
- Grape varieties : 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Sémillon
- Alcohol content : 13%
- Total acidity : 5.4
- pH : 3.2
Upbringing
- 25% matured in new barrels
Vineyard management
The year was characterized by an unstable start but a favorable second half, resulting in excellent grape ripening. Protective equipment and meticulous harvesting methods ensured optimal harvest quality, despite the challenges of powdery mildew and variable weather conditions.

Wijnhuis
The estate owes its name to the tower that stands in the courtyard of the castle. It is the remnant of a fortress built in the 12th century by Montesquieu's ancestors. At that time, the fortress had a strategic position and controlled the road that connected Bordeaux to Toulouse. The stones of the fortress were used at the end of the 18th century to build the current castle.
In 1871, the estate attracted the attention of Edouard Kressmann, who had just founded his trading house in Bordeaux. He was seduced by the quality of the white wines. Alfred Kressmann, Edouard's eldest son, finally bought the estate in 1930. He changed the name to Château Latour-Martillac. Today, Jean Kressmann's children continue the family tradition, with Tristan and Loïc, the two youngest sons, in charge of the general management. Year after year, with the help of the best oenologists in Bordeaux, they make the most of this authentic "terroir de Graves".
