The estate owes its name to the tower that stands in the courtyard of the castle. It is the remnant of a fortress built in the 12th century by Montesquieu's ancestors. At that time, the fortress had a strategic position and controlled the road that connected Bordeaux to Toulouse. The stones of the fortress were used at the end of the 18th century to build the current castle.

In 1871, the estate attracted the attention of Edouard Kressmann, who had just founded his trading house in Bordeaux. He was seduced by the quality of the white wines. Alfred Kressmann, Edouard's eldest son, finally bought the estate in 1930. He changed the name to Château Latour-Martillac. Today, Jean Kressmann's children continue the family tradition, with Tristan and Loïc, the two youngest sons, in charge of the general management. Year after year, with the help of the best oenologists in Bordeaux, they make the most of this authentic "terroir de Graves".
