Description
The Burgundian Morey wine family is widely branched, with deep roots in Chassagne-Montrachet, a small, picturesque village 15 km south of Beaune. The Marc Morey estate is managed by Bernard Mollard, Marc Morey's son-in-law. Bernard Mollard is a passionate wine man, with an extra sense for quality. Winemaker Bernard and Sabine Mollard is a specialist in making terroir-typed Burgundies such as those from Saint-Aubin, Chasssagne-Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet in various gradations. Respect for the terroir is the key word at Marc Morey. The vines are pruned for optimal yields. The soil is worked all year round. For several years now, the estate has been located in Chassagne Montrachet near Beaune in the Côte-d'Or department.
This Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru is a 100% Chardonnay from a vineyard located on a clay-limestone soil. After manual picking, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under strict temperature control. The young wine is then transferred to 1-year-old oak barrels where it lies on its own lees until the end of the malolactic fermentation, with regular 'bâtonnage' (stirring and stirring) of the 'lees'. This strengthens the mineral character of the wine and gives more structure and creaminess. After 10 months, the wine is tapped, clarified and (depending on the vintage) lightly filtered before bottling.
The Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has a lovely, precise bouquet with yellow flowers and a light limestone scent, with a hint of blackberry leaf. It has an intense nose, ripe, fruity and mineral, with a hint of butter and vanilla and well-integrated wood nuances. The taste is well balanced with candied orange peel at the attack and the typical limestone terroir expression. On the tongue, purity, minerality, delicate fresh taste, balanced structure, with a complex, persistent mineral finish
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount. You will see your discount immediately when you choose 'Pick up' on the checkout page. We are located in Dordrecht almost next to the A16 with plenty of parking.

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes derives from five-year-old vines, but you'd hardly know it. Exhibiting aromas of white flowers, pear, toasted nuts and subtle reduction, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with a fleshy core of fruit and a precise finish.
I've wanted to visit Domaine Marc Morey for several years, as this discreet Chassagne-Montrachet has long produced excellent wines that fly somewhat under the radar. Its origins go back to great-grandfather Fernand Morey, whose whites and reds I've adored and who presided over winemaking between 1919 and around 1950. The eponymous Marc Morey was his son, who ran the domaine for the second half of the twentieth century. Today, it's Sabine Mollard who presides, having joined the family estate in 2003. Fruit is gently crushed and pressed pneumatically, with a short and comparatively static cycle, followed by debourbage overnight at 12 degrees centigrade and the beginning of alcoholic fermentation in tank before barreling down. Working with a wide variety of coopers (including Chassin and François Frères), Sabine stirs the lees until the end of malolactic fermentation. Regional appellations see nine months in barrel, with the rest racked to tank just before harvest and bottled, under natural cork, in early spring.

From: The Lord Giveth…Burgundy 2023 (Jan 2025)
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has impressive purity on the nose, with very well-defined scents of lemon, orange pith and apple blossom. The palate has a powerful, weighty opening. This has a lot of concentration, with tropical notes coming through toward the finish, though the previous vintage had a little more tension. Give this a couple of years in bottle to be tamed.
