Description
the Millemann winery in Burgundy
Millemann is a modern, independent producer in Burgundy focused on creating pure, terroir-driven wines. The house combines respect for tradition with a precise, contemporary approach. The Millemann brothers strive for wines that exude balance, energy, and authenticity. Through careful work in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the cellar, they produce wines of exceptional finesse and depth.
All grapes are harvested by hand and vinified individually by plot. The emphasis is on respect for the terroir and preserving the grape's natural expression. Millemann wines have quickly gained international attention thanks to their pure style and ability to accurately capture the character of Burgundy's Grand Crus.
the Clos de la Roche vineyard
Clos de la Roche is one of the most prestigious Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits, located in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard borders Clos Saint-Denis and Chambertin, sharing their aristocratic character. The soil consists of a mixture of limestone, clay, and pebbles, resulting in wines with power, structure, and deep mineral undertones.
The name "Clos de la Roche" refers to the rocky subsoil that gives the vineyard its unique character. Wines from this Grand Cru combine the power of Gevrey with the elegance of Chambolle. They are intense, complex, and have remarkable aging potential. Millemann uses old vines here, which produce low yields and grapes of exceptional concentration.
millemann clos de la roche grand cru 2022
The 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is an impressive Pinot Noir that perfectly balances power and refinement. The 2022 vintage produced wines with ripe, pure aromas and a remarkably fresh structure. This Clos de la Roche showcases Millemann's signature: precision, texture, and a pure expression of the terroir.
harvest and vinification
The grapes were harvested entirely by hand into small crates and rigorously selected. Approximately a quarter of the harvest was fermented as whole bunches to create additional complexity and tension. Vinification took place in open wooden vats with natural yeasts. Maturation lasted 18 months in French oak barrels, approximately 50 percent of which were new, to give the wine structure and depth without overpowering the fruit.
Millemann opts for a slow, controlled extraction. This preserves the elegance of Pinot Noir while simultaneously developing its layering and length. The result is a Grand Cru that perfectly combines power and subtlety.
color, smell and taste
The wine has a deep ruby red color with a slight purple hue. The nose opens with aromas of ripe cherry, blueberry, and black currant, followed by notes of violet, rose petals, cedar, clove, and a hint of graphite. On the palate, it is rich and structured, with a core of ripe red and black fruit. The tannins are fine-grained and perfectly integrated, while the lively acidity provides elegance and length.
The finish is long and complex, with notes of cherry pit, spice, and wet limestone. This 2022 showcases the best of Clos de la Roche: a wine with power, balance, and an almost velvety texture that only deepens with age.
store and serve
Serve this Grand Cru at around 16°C. The wine is already seductive in its youthful expression, but will continue to develop over the next 20 to 25 years. With aging, notes of truffle, forest floor, and subtle smoke emerge, while the structure retains its elegance.

There is a new producer in Burgundy. Pierre Millemann may be a "rookie" in Burgundy in terms of production, but his roots, knowledge and wines tell a different story...
History of Millemann
Pierre Millemann grew up between Anjou, where his parents lived, and Alsace, where his grandparents lived and where he spent all his holidays. His father and grandfather, both wine lovers and connoisseurs, soon began to pass on their passion.
Pierre began to study in Paris. During his first internship he met René Renou (President of the Institut National des Appellations d'Origine), who quickly became his mentor. Fascinated by the development of wine, Pierre quickly understood that the terroir was the key. That's why he went to work in the vineyards and cellars for a year. First in Germany, then at Château Carbonnieux (Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux) and finally at Charles Heidsieck (Champagne). He returned to university to perfect his knowledge and obtained a diploma in oenology in Champagne and then a national diploma in oenology in Dijon. He then continued to gain experience by holding various positions in different regions in France. It was in the Jura, where he worked as a cellar master, that he met Stephanie, then a sommelier student, who became his wife.
Thanks to their experiences and the very positive results on the estates where they worked together, Pierre and Stéphanie set up their own oenological advisory structure in 2003. In a constant search for new techniques, Pierre completed his education with a master's degree in oenological research in Dijon and began training future oenologists at the University of Burgundy, as a part-time teacher. The family now works with the best estates in Burgundy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the United States. Their daughter Charlotte recently joined the family business and started training with her father.
Production by Millemann
Pierre has started producing wine since 2017. He made his debut with his Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, which was immediately well received in the wine world. Given his knowledge, expertise and finesse, it was no wonder that his wines would turn out well. Because it is still a fairly new producer, not much is yet known about its production and vinification methods. We do know that he produces a number of cuvées. Today he makes wines from the most exclusive vineyards in Burgundy. Think of Corton-Charlemagne, Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Corton-Renardes.
