Description
Eve and Michel Rey together run this small domaine in the beautiful village of Vergisson, located between the Roche de Vergisson and the Roche de Solutré. They do all the work in the cellar and vineyard themselves and therefore know every vine. As a winemaker, Michel is extremely eager to learn and Eve is a huge perfectionist. This is probably why the wines from this relatively young winery have improved significantly in recent years. No insecticides or pesticides are used, the soil is cultivated all year round with respect for nature and the grapes are picked by hand and transported in small boxes. What delicious and young drinkable wines for this money!
Eve and Michel Rey care for their vines as naturally as possible, and because they have so few vineyards, they are able to tend all their vines by hand. They only use organic treatments, if any treatments are needed, and plow the soil instead of using herbicides.
Grapes are crushed as a whole bunch in a soft pneumatic press and fermented on native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Wines are aged for a minimum of 10 months in mainly used French oak barrels. Very little sulfur is added at each stage; and wines are bottled unfiltered. The grapes of Pouilly-Fuissé come from the La Maréchaude vineyard in Vergisson. The vines were planted in 1970, which means that the vines have now reached an age that allows great concentration in the wine.
The Pouilly Fuisse La Maréchaude is a 100% Chardonnay and has a light straw yellow color in the glass. It has a concentrated nose with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, peach and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth a full and mineral attack, ripe acids and a long aftertaste. The Rey Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude is a beautiful organic white Burgundy with great elegance, a characteristic minerality and aging potential.

Domaine Michel Rey is a small domaine in Vergisson where organic work is done. Eve and Michel Rey run this small domaine together in the beautiful village of Vergisson between the Roche de Vergisson and the Roche de Solutré. They do all the work in the cellar and the vineyard themselves and therefore know every vine. As a winemaker, Michel is extremely eager to learn and Eve is a huge perfectionist. That is probably why the wines of this relatively young winery have improved considerably in recent years. No insecticides or pesticides are used, the soil is worked all year round with respect for nature and the grapes are picked by hand and transported in small boxes. The price / quality is very good for their entire range.
The vineyards are sandwiched between two gigantic rocks: Roche de Vergisson and the famous Roche de Solutré. Eve comes from an old winemaking family in Julienas (Beaujolais), where they also own 1 hectare of vineyard. She does everything together with her husband Michel, who learned the trade from his father-in-law. As a winemaker, he is extremely eager to learn. He is one of the fast rising stars of the Maconnais. Although Michel will be the last to admit that and fortunately that is also reflected in the price. He prefers to work all day in the vineyards.
