James Suckling has ranked Chateau D'Issan 2022: No. 1 in his Top 100 World Wines 2025 as " Wine of the Year "

Château d'Issan is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Médoc and rightfully bears the name "Château." The magnificent 17th-century architecture is reflected not only in the château itself but also in the wine cellars. The history of the wine itself is equally rich. The French and English royal families served this wine at weddings and celebrations, as did the Austrian court. Issan's motto can be found on the elegant gold label: "Regum mensis aris que deorum."

Blason d'Issan, the second wine, was introduced in 1995 to allow for selection from our vines grown in the Margaux appellation. Fruit from the youngest vines is used to produce this wine, which respects the identity of its terroir while offering a savory, round fruitiness that can be enjoyed earlier than its older sibling. Blason d'Issan is also aged for 14 to 16 months in barrels, a third of which are new. The Blason d'Issan is a blend of 57% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot. The Blason d'Issan has a deep garnet-purple color. The nose reveals aromas of earth, spices, warm plums, and blackcurrant with hints of tar. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, and grainy with a lively backbone and a savory finish. Decant in its early years.

FACT: It's worth mentioning that we buy our Bordeaux directly and never through intermediaries, as we don't know all the journeys the wine has made or how it's been treated. The wines come directly from the Chateau's cellars to our climate-controlled warehouse in Dordrecht. The wine is stored in our climate-controlled Wine Warehouse, and if you pick it up, you'll often receive a nice discount. You'll see your discount immediately when you select "Pickup" at the checkout page. We're located in Dordrecht with ample parking. Click here for our address.

Château d'Issan is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Médoc and rightly bears the name 'Château'. The beautiful 17th-century architecture can be found not only in the chateau itself, but also in the wine cellars. The history of the wine itself is just as rich. The French and English royal family served this wine at weddings and parties and the same was true for the Austrian Court. Issan's motto can be found on the chic gold label: “Regum mensis aris que deorum”.

Before the tables of kings and the altars of the gods. For the current director, Emmanuel Cruse, the history is of course important, but for him it is mainly about the quality of the wines. Under Emmanuel, huge investments were made in the quality of the vineyards and in modern cellar equipment. This troisième grand cru classé from Margaux was brought back to the top of the appellation under his inspiring leadership. The vineyard, measuring 30 hectares, is located on the edge of the Gironde. So perfectly situated. Since 2013, the Cruse family has sold 50% of the property to Jacky Lorenzetti (Ch. Pedesclaux & Ch. Lilian Ladouys), the remaining 50% remains with the Cruse family.
