Description
In the nose beautiful tones of black fruit, plums, leather, vanilla, complex and wide. In the mouth this Nobile has a firm attack with black fruit, vanilla, concentration, with some tannins afterwards. This Montepulciano is a delicious elegance and freshness, juicy and fresh, beautiful cherry fruit, fine acids and some tannins afterwards, wonderfully wide, soft finish. A beautiful wine that is a great companion for game, red meat or with some strong tasting cheese.
Frederico Carletti, the current owner of Azienda Agricola Poliziano, is responsible for a revolutionary change. Carletti has turned Poliziano into a real wine producing company, which produces and bottles its own wines. He left for Piedmont to study oenology at university. He then did internships with various wine producers, to gain the necessary practical experience. Then it was time to make his childhood dream come true. Since he took over in 1981, the company's star has risen rapidly.
Among the innovations he introduced were the planting of new grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the creation of new wines such as Le Stanze, Elegia and a Riserva of separate vineyards, such as Vigna Asinone. With these showpieces Carletti won the hearts of wine lovers and won numerous prizes at international competitions. Poliziano is now generally regarded as one of the great pioneers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

WINE-FOOD SUGGESTIONS:

The acids in the tomato and the savoury cheese match perfectly with the fresh structure and fruity character of the wine.Grilled sausages with fennel and paprika
The spiciness and fat of the sausages go well with the mature flavours and structure of the Vino Nobile.Chicken cacciatore (stew with tomatoes, onions and olives)
The rich, Mediterranean flavours are beautifully carried by the spicy and juicy style of the wine.Risotto with mushrooms and thyme
The earthy flavours of the mushrooms enhance the earthy notes in the wine, while the creamy texture softens the tannins.Lamb stew with rosemary and polenta
The deep flavors of the stew and the spicy sauce are beautifully balanced by the fresh, fruity profile of the wine.Guinea fowl fillet with a red wine, cherry and bay leaf sauce
The refined structure of the guinea fowl and the slightly sweet sauce are an excellent match for the elegant, fruit-driven style of this Vino Nobile.

The 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano offers ripe cherry and blackberry fruit with a long and fleshed out mouthfeel. Poliziano is a detailed-minded estate that is one of the founding fathers of modern Vino Nobile. This forward-looking producer has produced a versatile wine from a hot vintage to pair with pasta or easy meat dishes.

From: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano: Making Wine in The New Normal (Oct 2023)
The 2020 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is dark and rich in the glass. Camphor and pine hints lift a burst of cherry and plum sauce. This is silky-smooth and elegant, with cooling minerality and crisp red fruits that cascade throughout. It finishes long and staining with a spicy twang and gently grippy tannins, punctuating the experience well. Poliziano has captured the ripeness of the vintage in a beautifully balanced manner. This is terrific.
- By Eric Guido on July 2023
Poliziano excels through its two single-vineyard wines in the 2019 vintage. Last year, it was the Asinone that stood out amongst its peers, and this year, I was reminded of the perfect combination of vintage power and house style from Le Caggiole. There’s a polish to the Poliziano wines, yet expertly accomplished in a way that terroir shines through uninterrupted. Both wines will be upgraded to the new Pieve designation in the coming years. As for 2020, the Asinone shows the year's warmth through its ripe fruit and supple textures yet finds a lovely balance. It will be an early drinking Asinone, but it is perfect to hold us over as the 2019 slowly matures. Federico Carletti remains the family's winemaker, aided by the third-generation Maria Stella and Francesco Carletti.
