2021 Okonomierat Rebholz Riesling Im Sonnenschein Grosses Gewachs BIO
A more than great, and also organic, Riesling from a top winery from the German Pfalz wine region. The well-known region where the most hours of sunshine in Germany are measured each year and the temperature is quite high for German standards. Winery Okononierat Rebholz has the most vineyards along the Haardtrand (part between Pfälzer Wald and Rheinebene) located on the west. However, there are also south-facing vineyards, such as the vineyard side "im Sonnenschein" where this Riesling comes from. This vineyard is located at an altitude between 160 and 225 m and has a gradient of 5 to 20%. The vineyard has a soil of colorful sandstone. Geologically, the soil is still quite young. It developed about 1 million years ago. The Queich, a small river, has transported huge amounts of gravel from the Pfälzer Wald, which settled along the slopes. This soil consists of sand and sandstone from the colorful sandstone of Pfälzer Wald, loam and gravel. It is a perfect soil for Riesling.
In the context of the cool and crisp vintage, this dry Riesling is almost luscious, the juiciness almost completely masking the acidity. The Okonomierat Rebholz Riesling Im Sonnenschein Grosses Gewachs has delicious citrus fruit and a hint of fresh tarragon. The wine has tannins and serious chalky minerality underline all this with the imposing but fresh finish. From grapes grown biodynamically. A complex and elegant wine that, thanks to the consistent and uncompromising style of winemaking, a wine with enormous aging potential. This wine is certified organic.
Very suitable as an aperitif. Excellent combination with dishes with oysters, lobster, sea fish, sole and turbot. Also beautiful with turkey and Bresse chicken with mushrooms, sushi and sashimi.
