Description
The 'Azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. Montaribaldi grapes grow among the vineyards of Angelo Gaja's famous winery. Not the least to have as neighbors. The owners of the Montaribaldi winery, the brothers Luciano and Roberto Taliano, are happy with their plots of land, which are spread in the Langhe and Monferrato hills. Wine has been made here for centuries and even UNESCO appreciates the interplay of man and nature by recently including this region in the prestigious World Heritage List. Although the Montaribaldi winery has been around for much longer, the brothers have not been in business for very long in wine terms, since 1994. But together with winemaker Carlo Arnulfo, they already make beautiful Piedmont wines with a great price/quality ratio.
The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines originate in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are grown and produced sustainably. As they call it: making 'vineyard wines' sets them apart from others.
The Barbera d'Asti DOCG La Consolina comes from vineyards located in the municipality of Costigliole d'Asti - and this is the sweet spot where the most beautiful Barbera D'Asti's come from. The vineyard has a south-eastern exposure at an altitude of 200 meters and was planted in 1960. The terroir consists of a sandy soil with marl and limestone in the upper layers. It is therefore not surprising that the La Consolina has such a beautiful mineral nose and aftertaste. The Barbera grapes are harvested between the end of September and the first half of October, after which the grapes are destemmed and crushed. They are then placed in stainless steel thermo-conditioned tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place. The alcoholic fermentation takes about a week at a temperature of 27-29 ° C.
The wine is then left on its lees for 2-3 months (temperature 20-22°C) to complete the malactic fermentation. The wine is then allowed to mature quietly for another 4 months (at a very low temperature) and finally, in the summer after the harvest, the Barbera d'Asti DOCG La Consolina is bottled and, after several months of storage, in the Montaribaldi cellars. the wine becomes available.
In the glass, the La Consolina has a beautiful ruby red color with purple reflections. On the nose, the wine is fruity, fresh, minerally with a spicy bouquet. In the mouth the wine is medium-bodied with good structure and soft tannins. This is a wonderfully smooth, elegant wine that goes with many meals, but is also great as an aperitif, on the terrace at the BBQ or by the fireplace.

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
