Description
The 2021 Julien Schaal Mountain Vineyards Pinot Noir is an elegant 'French' pinot noir with some wood aging. The grapes were harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and sorted in the cellar to ensure that only the best fruit was used for fermentation. Part was fermented as whole berries. The wine is naturally fermented and aged in barrel (300L) for 12 months. The Mountain Vineyards Pinot Noir has a beautiful typical bright ruby red color in the glass. The nose has delicate earthy aromas combined with red and dark berry aromas. On the palate, these characteristics follow with interesting savory notes and just a hint of oak in the finish.

Wijnhuis
Julien Schaal is an entrepreneur from Alsace. In October he makes riesling in France and in February/March chardonnay in South Africa. He learned the intricacies of the South African terroir from the Newton Johnson's and Paul Cluver.
His wines are beautifully pure and have French elegance. All the grapes come from the cooler areas, Walker Bay and especially Elgin. The grapes come from rented blocks selected by him and processed according to his standards and values. In practice, this is as organic as possible, 100% organic in good years. Harvesting is done by hand and by a permanent team of people.
